Newcastle United 1-2 Brighton & Hove Albion - 02/03/2025

Disappointing.

Either of the offside goals, first was Barnes being too slow to play it and second was very close, and we scrape a win.

We didn't play well, but Brighton didn't either. Their best chances came from us passing it to them and we kicked their first shot into the goal.

If that hinders us for the Carabao final, then that is even more disappointing.

If that Isak goal was played earlier and we went a couple up it was done and dusted.

Two poor performances, the difference being Brighton played with a bit of courage and character deserved to go through.

Agree, it looked like two teams trying to give the game away mostly. Some appalling ball control on both sides. They found the one guy on the pitch who could finish in the end.

It feels like this is the season done and dusted. We've not been good enough for weeks bar the odd 20 minute spell in a game here and there. Stupidity from Gordon and deservedly will miss the final, their CB made the most of it, but that feels like the game in this day and age. Our options from the bench today offered nothing, you can make a triple sub, but we are often worse.

This isn't an anomaly of a performance, our winning run papered over this season as we've arguably played worse over the majority of this season than we have been better.

About as disastrous as it's possible to get.

Didn't play well, to put it mildly

Absolutely everything fell for them

Ref was absolutely horrific and let them off so many times

Gordon misses the final

Isak off with a reoccurring strain

Subs made no impact

Play all of extra time

Still lose

Fucking shite. Hated it, it felt like one of those games from the start and you could see what was going to happen when Welbeck came on a mile off. Not good enough from too many of them.

Dubravka: 7.5

Trippier: 5

Schär: 2

Burn: 6

Livramento: 4.5 Targett: 6.5

Tonali: 6.5

Miley: 5.5 Bruno: 6.5

Joelinton: 6.5 Willock: 6.5

Gordon: 3 (was shit even before the red)

Isak: 7

Barnes: 4.5 Murphy: 5.5

Harsh on Tino.

Tonali should be higher. Burn was very good, he is suffering from Schar being garbage lately.

Dubs is a 6 at best for me. A couple of good saves, that he should just make anyway.

I don’t think it’s an average team at all, that’s why it’s so frustrating. But there is a big difference in quality within the team now and there is some insane decision making going on with some of the weaker players.

Schar-Burn for me doesn’t work anymore. We all know RCB is a priority position and Botman is injured but it is costing the team. I don’t blame the players or the manager and the club do want to fix it, but that’s the reality.

Got away with Murphy in the first half of the season but his form had dried up a bit and he makes some terrible choices in his own half.

Aye, and if my auntie had a cock she'd be my uncle. We were pretty awful most of the game and let an average Brighton beat us again in our own backyard. We can make excuses but we didn't deserve anything. Our play is slow and ponderous. It's grim viewing.

Let’s see what the final brings in a fortnight but this feels like the end of a cycle. Plenty of players potential need to be shipped on, fresh blood brought in. Some amazing memories but the inconsistencies are starting to become apparent.

Does get tiring giving up so many goals to teams who aren’t even playing well. And giving the ball away every 45 seconds.

It's honestly exhausting. Just continually shoot ourselves in the foot. Way more this season than I can remember in a while
