Wembley /Europe?

I can't think of anything more pointless.

I'll give you one, simple, good example and that should be the end of discussion.

I was travelling without a ticket.

My friends and family are all going, with tickets, to the match, and to London.  These are the people who I go to every home game, who I've went to tonnes of away games with.

If I didn't travel down with them, I'd be sat at home watching it on the telly in the house.  Why would I want to do that when I can afford a weekend away with the people I experience all football emotions with throughout the years, have a good laugh on the beers and still watch the game?

Let alone the small chance of a ticket coming my way, which as it turned out thanks to someone here, I ended up with one.

So whats the issue? If people want to go and have a good time who are you to tell them otherwise?

I personally wouldn’t do it because I couldn’t stand the FOMO when everyone heads to the ground and I don’t. I don’t even like to be in Newcastle if I don’t have a ticket for a home game

There are loads of reasons why people would though, as discussed.

To soak in the atmosphere, to acquaint or reacquaint oneself with a city or town, then to lurk in an alleyway with nothing but a grim smile and a switchblade, assuming a matchgoer’s ticket and aspects of their identity after dragging them into said alleyway and slicing them from ear to ear.

Went to Bruge away many years ago. Saw more people I knew in the city centre than I see in Newcastle. It was a class trip, despite not managing to get a ticket to the game. No regrets.

Watching the big screen on the square was class

Same here. Kept bumping into people I hadn’t seen in years. It was like half the North East decamped to the town square in Bruges for two days.

Out trip to Brugge  was class, seen villas fan's there and looked proper tame in comparison, remember that square people hoying footballs out their bedroom windows to our fans below.

Remember being in a nightclub walking down stairs and my mate behind me slipped and took me and numerous fans with him to the bottom of the stairs, the bar staff give us all refills and some freebies too, still think that trip topped the champions league ones of late.

Why do people go to the pub to watch a match on the TV when they can do that at home?

Not exactly the same is it?

No, but the principle is the same.

People choosing to make more effort, in order to socialise in what they believe to be a better atmosphere, to essentially watch something they could watch sitting in the house.

Cos it’s better than being dragged round the shops by the missus

Good point. Probably the first sensible thing you've said all day.

Why do some posters make smug pointless threads when they could just keep their sanctimonious vibes to themselves?

One of life's great mysteries i suppose.

Excellent use of sanctimonious but you’ve really let yourself down at the end there with the mystery’s
