[LCF] Newcastle United 2-1 Liverpool - NUFC LEAGUE CUP WINNERS

Recommended Posts

I don’t know why but I feel like it’s end of an era to me. And of course the beginning of another era as well.

Might be because our core players (Schar Lacelles Trippier etc) are all near the end of their time here after so many years of services

Just remembering how class the Fender singalong during the trophy celebrations was. :aww:

Was great to hear Coming Home Newcastle getting belted out as well, magical scenes that will live long in the memory.

What a day… What a weekend! Great to share it with so many friends. The Wembley experience this time round was night & day from minute one. Would’ve loved to of been able to of experienced it back home in Newcastle also. Hope everyone had a great day with their friends and family.

As for the game I got a bit stick for saying Hall getting injured was a blessing in disguise. All though we will never know how it would’ve played out I just felt you stop Salah you go a long way stopping Liverpool and make it 10v10. With Tino being right footed it would match up well with an inverted winger and he’s more disciplined man marking and closing down. Burn played his part helping and my MOTM overall. Trippier probably my 1-20min MOTM as that calmness and experience helped build the defensive platform. We won the midfield battle and the forwards were great out of possession and were a massive threat with the possession they had and should’ve been rewarded with at least one more goal. As for the late goal it wouldn’t be NUFC if they didn’t make us suffer a little bit! So pleased for Howe. Hope it’s the start for the doubters realising what we’ve got with this man.

Night ended 5am for me with thoughts as things died down of wondering what my dad would’ve been like.

Lazy morning injecting the content ahead no doubt then train home and land in town around 5pm and soak it up for a few hours in the Bigg Market. Drinks on me if anyone in the vicinity.

We did it!

I see Carragher was linking Eddie with England post-match.

Already fucking started with and attempt at unsettling us while we were still in the building after winning our first major trophy.  Scouse cunt.

This is exactly how I feel. [emoji38]

Loving reading people's responses on this thread this morning. And popping Sky Sports news on the box.

Thought he just said he should be next England manager? Which come 2026, he should be, seeing he's only current English manager to win a major trophy and managing at a big club.

Think he'll be priced out though, as I'd expect we'll give him a new deal and comes down to if Howe himself would want an England release clause inserted.

Trippier was already in there but who else gets in our all time XI now?

I think Bruno's in there over Lee now. Honestly almost tempted to have Joelinton in after yesterday as well.

I mean who realistically gets in over Joelinton? Speed? Batty? Lee? Cabaye? Whoever they are, they didn't, and likely couldn't do what Big Joe did yesterday. He's in the all time XI 100%.

Think it's just about forcing players in, Beardsley basically.

Man, what a day.

Every single player was excellent, about as complete a team performance as you’ll ever see. For them to produce that in a game of such magnitude is an incredible feat, huge credit to them all and of course to Eddie too.

It’s particularly sweet as it was likely the last chance for a lot of this group of players. We may go on to bigger and better things in years to come but this will always be special, the first trophy that most of us have ever seen us lift. It’s so fitting that players like Pope, Trippier, Burn, Schar and Murphy were in the team that did it, that players like Willock, Wilson, Krafth and (almost) Longstaff played a role off the bench. Even Lascelles being there, after how much he’s given to the club. A lot of players mentioned there will be gone from the club quite soon, and others will have diminished roles. But they’re Newcastle legends forever now.

So happy for everyone on here too, I suspect the vast majority of you broke down sobbing at full time just like I did.

We’ve been through a lot with this club. Saw some great teams with great managers that just didn’t quite manage to win a trophy. Saw some awful teams too, endured some dreadful managers. Had an absolutely vile human being cynically run our club into the ground for a long time, broke some of us along the way.

Can say with absolute certainty that if it wasn’t for this forum I would have packed it in during those Ashley years. So thank you all for being here, I hope you all loved yesterday as much as I did.

Howay the Lads.
