Newcastle United 5-0 Crystal Palace (16/04/25)

Recommended Posts

Felt like we really stepped up a level tonight. Apart from Isak looking abit off it and Pope's lairy moment we were switched on and ruthless.

Murphy was on it and should have had more assists if Isak had been sharper.

Tonali just bossing everything in midfield.

Barnes really hitting top form now and such a good finisher, loved that step over when everyone expects the signature cut on to his right.

One thing I don't get is why Longstaff and Wilson get minutes in a 5-0 ahead of Osula and Miley, really don't get the logic but it's a minor thing obviously.

Real chance to attack the villa game now, lads shouldn't be too tired after that and no suspensions or bad injuries plus a week off after. Go there and give them our best.

We stepped up a level before the cup final. I really believe a mental switch has been found and the players now think of themselves as a genuinely top team who can beat anyone. And consistently dispose of the lesser sides.

We have that feel about us now, the old 'typical Newcastle' shit is over for a long time.

Pressure’s off. To know you’ll go down as legends regardless of what happens in the league must be liberating.

In regards to the Eze penalty, while it was utterly hilarious,  I actually think them style of penalties should be outlawed. Penalties are already stacked massively in the favor of the attacker, I don't think it's fair to have players literally stop mid-run up to get the keeper to dive, it feels like cheating.

True but I think it happened before that. Part of the approach to the final was to shed that old mindset.

Pretty sure it used to be against the rules, I may be mistaken though.

I'll never get bored of seeing us stomp that non-entity husk of a club into the dirt. Get it right up those noncey ultras of theirs too.

We're an absolute joy to watch when we're 'on it'. I love the attitude and work ethic of this team, when we don't have the ball our players hunt down the opposition in packs, our midfield 3 are beasts charging around like viking beserkers. Pep can keep his wingers slowly trundling towards the box before passing it backwards, I like to see wingers who are fast as bombing down the flanks. We also have a cheat code up front.

One sour note though, if Osula isn't gonna get game time when we're 5-0 up at home, then when will he? I'm seriously getting sick of Wilson now. I don't want it to end like this for him.

It was amazing save by Pope. He didn't bite at the fakes and right before the kick his weight started to move to right but he quickly adjusted and was able to get to the ball. I know most hate those penalties but IMO it was more amazing job by Pope than a poor penalty by Eze. I doubt Pope did it on purpose but faking the way you are going will make the kicker look fucking stupid on those.

It's the most efficient penalty style until keepers learn to adjust and I'm so happy Isak did it too recently.
