Smal Posted yesterday at 10:12 Share Posted yesterday at 10:12 I think this can work against Chelsea specifically. They tend to play both full backs narrow and leave space out wide. We should have plenty of space for the 4 wide players on transition. Our CBs will need to be flawless.

Alex Hurst was banging on true faith about this last week saying if the club wants the fans to be in full voice they should offer a free Madri to everyone. He said it taking the piss I think but the club's only gone and done it. 😁
Cronky Posted yesterday at 10:13 Share Posted yesterday at 10:13 It's hard to predict the formation. I think he'll go for a 3-5-2 with Tino and Barnes as wing backs, Murphy, Tonali and Bruno in midfield, Isak and Gordon up front. I could be completely wrong of course, but it's encouraging to see the old Eddie Howe grey matter in action. It's the latest in any number of games since Eddie arrived where I've looked at the opposition and thought that we're done for. Somehow, it doesn't turn out like that, and I think we'll win. I've learned my lesson.

I mentioned last week, we may need Howe to go with a different tactical approach for this game to mitigate for Joelinton being out. Glad to see it looks like he has done. Gives me more hope. ElDiablo Posted yesterday at 10:13 Share Posted yesterday at 10:13 Big job on for Bruno and Tonali. Might be outnumbered 2-1 in there with the way they play.

Doops Posted yesterday at 10:18 Share Posted yesterday at 10:18 I thought he might go for Gordon in the willock role to limit totally changing everything around. That would have most playing in a position they're used to

I'd expect Burn and/or Botman to come forward to snuff out any danger early, especially aerial balls. Also I'd expect the wing backs and wingers to provide extra protection if and when they can to avoid the midfield pair getting outnumbered consistently. I just don't see Howe ever going for a 4-2-3-1. 5-2-3 or 3-4-3 (basically the same those two) would at the very least be something that we have done before. Cronky Posted yesterday at 10:24 Share Posted yesterday at 10:24 He's fielding three wide attacking players and I think the main puzzle is how they're all going to fit in. I can't envisage Gordon in midfield because he can't tackle. I'm assuming Murphy, as the best tackler of the three, will go into midfield. Barnes is a good athlete and I could imagine him as a wing back, but whether he's played there before I don't know. Maybe Schar will be pushed forward to do a job on Palmer, like he did against Arsenal with Rice.
