It just qualified for the CL for the 2nd time in 3 years and won its first domestic trophy in 70 years.

Now its having a little trouble on the management side after the CEO being sick with cancer and our sporting director suddenly quit after supposedly clashing with one of our greatest manager ever.

And there are allegedly replacements coming in for those roles soon, and still approx. 5 weeks left of the transfer window. We do have money to spend as well. Might turn out nice again after all.

True. Thank you for talking me off this ledge.

Can't blame them though can you? They've already lost Mbuemo. Why give someone a fair price for Wissa? The whole point of them quoting £50m is to fend us off, or if we do pay it, then they can use that money to buy someone as good or better than Wissa.

I'd be raging if we gave Isak to Liverpool for a fair price.

Yeah fair point

Also, Andy Howe doing the negotiations. :naughty:

So he's doing an Isak basically? Great

Right, everything is a little dysfunctional right now due to the unforeseen personnel turnover,  but it seems like a really odd time to be engaging in a rending of garments.

If you thought we were going to sign 4-5 of the best players in Europe this summer and break up the big six, it’s becoming increasingly clear that was never realistic given PSR and our lack of a dedicated lead decision maker for transfers. (And the club’s biggest mistake this window is that they appear to have thought we could do that too).

If Brentford can play hardball and tell Wissa "tough shit", why can't we do the same with Isak?

We’re playing harder ball than Brentford, given that they at least appear willing to entertain bids while we have not.

But they had an agreement in place to let wissa leave this summer. They've been offered more than the alleged agreed fee.

28 year olds last chance at CL.

Can see why Wissa would be pissed off but can also see why Brentford would want to squeeze as much £ out of the deal as they can

We didn't promise Isak a move away so I don't see how it's the same scenario personally.

We promised him a new contract - so both broken promises resulting in both refusing to play.

Dislike it when players refuse to train/play but not sticking to your word is worse

Obviously we don't know exactly what was discussed but if he was told he can leave for X price and Brentford have reneged on that then I understand the players position

Obviously I know when it comes to a verbal agreement it's worth nothing in reality but to some people it's as good as a written agreement so anyone breaking it should be prepared for any fallout as a result of it

If they made that promise at the end of the 23/24 season, his value will have increased subsequently due to his performance last season.  Transfer fees also seem to have gone fully batshit this summer too.

£26m may have seemed reasonable then, it doesn't look so good now so you can kind of see where Brentford are coming from.
