We didn't promise Isak a move away so I don't see how it's the same scenario personally.

Exactly. Isak has only decided he wants out after Liverpool interest too. If it was really about the contract he'd have made that known early in the window not 3 weeks before the season starts [emoji38]

In fairness to Brentford him going along with Mbuembo leaves them canny short up front.  So can understand their stance.  We don't know what was agreed but like Geordie Ahmed I don't like players refusing to train/play.

Just now, James said:

Just tell him to strike on the grounds that if Liverpool can tell Isak to strike then we can. See how that goes down

I'm ok with us selling parking lots to ourselves for 500m but I don't want us to be the kind of team that derails another teams summer like this. A deal can be worked out, or it can't. It apparently can't. So we should just move on.

I'm sure we've "moved on" but the offer is still on the table.

This goes for both Isak and Wissa, but these “I won’t report and won’t play” threats are so incredibly hollow. Preseason tours are whatever, but nobody is skipping real matches and throwing away a year of their prime, and potentially tanking their appeal to the very elite clubs they’re trying to get a move to.

I’m sure it’s happened at some point, but it’s incredibly rare and usually a sign of terrible judgment.

Also, Andy Howe doing the negotiations. :naughty:

This BBC link says Andy Howe is now the acting sporting director. Eddie got Mitchel to leave, and his nephew’s stepped straight in to take over

Sounds like we have a new guy lined up though.

I've been talking about this and how this has been seen in the background of the club on here for 2 years. Not surprised in the slightest and we have sleepwalked into this.

Hang on a second, if Brentford promised to sell him for 26m and he only agreed to stick around for the season to help them through the Toney shaped hole in the first team, that’s unbelievably shoddy from Brentford to renege, verbal or not, and a long way from the mooted contract for Isak

.

He was probably sold on Brentford as a stepping stone if he performs so probably has more right to feel aggreived than Isak who was sold a project that would have happened but for the conspiring against us.
