Was talking to a Man U fan and he said Brentford pulled the same stick on the Man U Mbeumo deal, stating  they would prefer to sell to Spurs.  Simone Stone and a few Man U journos were reporting it at the time, the same as Craig Hope is now. It’s a sales tactic to pump the price, which they have been using all summer.

It’s apparently because Frank knows how much they want so they know they will get a good price. It’s not some personal preference but about money as always.

Of course. The idea they’d rather sell to Spurs just cos they like Frank, is laughable.

If it came down to it, and we offered 10 grand more than Spurs, they’d sell to us.

Brentford are definitely trying to create an auction, but tbf they probably don't want to sell him. We can't afford to wait until deadline day to sign a striker, if we feel we are being pissed about then sign a different one.

I think we were edging our bets across multiple players and Isak this year but just look at Eze.

Spurs thought they had it to themselves and then Arsenal snapped him up in a day.

Pedro with us and Chelsea

Trafford with Man City.

Maybe it's because they have no financial worries but the top clubs don't need to mess around and just pay the asking price.

No one outbid us. We bid more in regards to Ekitike and Sesko up front. We can’t match the wages or the attraction at the moment. It is what it is.

We are chasing high value players who are tried and tested, this is understandable in our position where we feel only players of a certain quality will improve us. But right now we only have one striker (who is ironically on strike) so we need to bring in a replacement for Wilson. I am sure we will do eventually, but not so sure Wissa will be the one.

Always doubted we’d get Wissa. It’s playing out as I predicted so far. Always felt if Brentford sold to anyone it be on their terms probably in the final week of the window.

They're still an attractive destination outside of just money, let's not deluded ourselves.

Footballers don't see them as the running joke that fans do and probably won't for many years to come.

Seems a unique position to take, we won't tell you how much we want but it's not that

Are you sure? Seems to me that Man U's and Liverpool's PR teams worked very hard to counteract the narrative that the players were just joining their clubs for financial reasons. Thats an obvious PR risk in the transfer market and the media teams are clearly paying attention to this as a. its the fundamental driver of transfers and b. creates a negative impression for fans. It makes no economic sense for the seller to accept anything less than the equivalent bid and for the buyer to try and frame the story as one of 'they only want this club'. I suspect the addon conditions were significantly different (appearances vs performances) to make the actual deal overall better for the seller.

The fact Brentfird didn't respond with an asking price probably means they're looking to resist a sale. Can't blame them, looking at the state of the market.

Wissa has been linked with other clubs. His agent will have some "get BS out there" power thanks to Romano etc., and it is possible for the transfer team of one club (here NUFC) to be slow on the uptake or a bit incompetent, but the more teams that are said to be interested in a player, the more likely it is such player is actually for sale for a non-ridiculous fee. The ol' "no smoke without fire".

Brentford's business model is to use data to analyze upcoming talent and offer them a chance to play in the PL as a starter who only needs to come out with midtable level performances. We cannot buy the same players as them because we need instant CL qualification level performances. We saw this with Elliot Anderson. Our needs/expectations were too high to give him the chance he needed to develop. If Brentford get good money for Wissa, they'll already know lots of suitable younger replacements, because that's what they do. They are not shopping in the same market as CL qualification clubs and Chelsea will not be hoovering up their targets.

Going off the report figures we were never outbid and there was always hints in both deals we’d offered slightly better terms to the club. However if the player tells the selling club he only wants to go to one club then not much they can do. They can’t force him to sign for us. They will probably thank him and his agent for bringing an auction scenario to its peak level which both did by leading us along.

You are thinking it’s two people buying a house off someone. It ain’t as with football the house gets the final say not the house seller. Ideally they want the best deal but ultimately if they’ve two offers over what they had expected anyway you just get the easiest deal done.

So no you're not sure, 'always a hint' sounds like PR to me.

Not really. They will hope another club gets involved that they feel the player will also except (Spurs). So why state a definitive figure other than what they have already i.e. £50m+.

Well I wasn’t in the room [emoji38]

Do your homework and check what we offered to what was agreed. NUFC offered the same/more.

There's always the hope from the seller that they are offered more than they want. Albert  Luque and apparently someone Man Utd bought who's name I can't remember.

Man Utd have a bigger stadium and better training facilities with the ability to attract some of the best players due to their legacy even when not in Europe.

They’ve (yet to be seen) a highly rated manager by all accounts. They’ve got some very good players and squad. They will give us a run for our money this season. If they don’t the players know PSR doesn’t really apply to them so they can go again each transfer window. Unlike us.

Even if players are shallow and just want Insta followers they’ll attract far more than ourselves currently. We’ve been stagnant for 14 years and only staring to become a club again last 4yrs.
