All this "refusing to submit transfer requests" bollocks needs clamping down on.

Contracts going forward need things in that say

- Refusing to train

- Refusing to travel

- Refusing to play

etc will invalidate any loyalty payments due if a transfer happens within current/next transfer window

It’ll never happen contracts for players are standard in terms of obligations and apart from the money bits are agreed with the PFA

Well at least change the name from LOYALTY bonus.

Can someone explain to me why Brentford is demanding so much money for a 29 year old striker that is on the last year of his contract in a year where he goes to AFCON? Surely they knew long time ago they need a replacement for him.

They tried to replace him and failed, and they need his goals. Plus they have the option of another year, so it’s really 2 years he has left.

I don't think they actually are called loyalty bonuses, from what I understand it's usually the signing on fee they're talking about. That is paid in installments over the length of the player's contract, with the remaining paid in full if they leave before their contract ends, unless they make a formal transfer request.
