If they can beat Nigeria, I reckon it strengthens our hand in terms of getting him to skip the AFCON.

”Want him fully fit for that World Cup playoff? Then let him stay here and work his way back so he’s at peak fitness by March”.

Obviously still completely relies on both Wissa and Congo buying into that theory, but at least it’s a little something to try and bargain with.

Unfortunately for us it doesn't work that way. They can call him up and play him as much as they like, we have no say. If he wants to play for his country we are shit out of luck.

I think the main thing he is mentioning is getting him to skip it. I have never spoken to the man so I can't say what he is thinking but I bet many here will know his every private thought.

Aye, I mean I'm sure we are trying to nudge him that way but ultimately we knew what we were getting mind. I think the bottom line is the player will be deciding, he's got form when it comes to getting his own way ;)

We agree then, he has the final say. Getting his own way? We paid the ransom.

Of course. For all we know Wissa might be bang up for the AFCON or even if he’s not, Congo might tell us to fuck clean off for suggesting he misses it.

But - we don’t know that’s the case. I’d expect if we do want to try and get him to miss it, then we go about it fairly discreetly, by speaking with him first and then Congo. And the first we were to really hear of it would be when it had all been agreed.

I’m fairly sceptical than we manage to get him to miss it, but the premise of getting him to peak fitness by a potential WC playoff in March, is at least something that we could try and use as justification for being in everybody’s best interests.

Maybe Congo qualifying for the WC is good news? Gives him something to look forward to if he misses African Nations.

Oh, they didn't even qualify?

How many more games?

They’re currently the highest ranked country in the inter continental playoffs so they’ll most likely go straight into 1 of two finals, for two spaces.

I agree. Hopefully increases the chances of him being willing to skip the AFCON.
