I think that’s because he’s demonstrated next to nothing in his career to date, unlike Big Nick. Look we’d all love you to be right!

Big nick done fuck all until he went to stuttgart. Osula hasn't had the chance yet.

Don't think anything is set in stone in regards to who we start or even the formation we play.

If anything I would think it's Wissa being eased in early on because of lack of gametime.

Gonna depend on who Eddie is most impressed by in training.

Said it at the time but now that it's confirmed Wissa took the #9 is a good indicated that he's going to be the main forward and Woltemade will be eased in.

Think it's sensible and takes a bit of pressure off the young lads shoulders. Also helps differentiate him as not necessarily an out an out 9 because he obviously has other qualities and can be a creator as well as just a goal scorer.

Almost like Eddie knows what he's doing and knows how to develop these guys to their full potential.

Only caveat is that he is probably way more match fit that Wissa at the moment so I wonder if we have much choice in the first few games while Gordon is still out to have to start Wissa on the bench until he catches up to everyone else.

I think they reserved the 9 for Wissa? Also Nick probably wants to grow into that? Don’t care about the shirt number tbh. If Nick is ready to lead the line he will imho.

This is going to be pretty interesting. The style we play means I'm pretty sure Howe will play the more match fit player v Wolves, which would be Woltemade, who's had a full pre-season and a league game under his belt. Wishful thinking, but if hits the ground running it could actually be hard for Wissa to get in. especially with AFCON being earlier this year.

I'd be very surprised if Wissa doesn't start against Wolves. He doesn't have the match fitness but has been training and will probably get match time for Congo. He's the one with Premier League experience, will understand how we play from playing against us numerous times and being immersed in the Premier League, and is the more senior player. He's probably closer to Isak in style too which will make him easier to drop-in. I'd imagine Woltemade will replace him on or after the 60 minutes mark when he starts to tire, and then Eddie will work with them and evolve things before AFCON.

So I work with a guy who is a massive Leverkusen fan. He’s been going on about Woltemade for months, saying he’s the best German striker he’s seen in 25 years.

I asked him earlier this summer if Wirtz was as good as people were saying, he said he’s decent but Germany often produces similar players like him. He once again mentioned Woltemade and said he’s the one you should look out for, he’s like a baby Zlatan and people outside Germany hadn’t picked up how good he is.

Move forward to the time we were after Ekitike, he said he’s decent but it’s interesting Bayern weren’t bothered with either Ekitike or Sesko, they only wanted Woltemade. He mentioned Bayern obviously rate him higher than them two and they were justified.

Then when we signed him, he was over the moon he was leaving Germany and out of Bayern’s hands….Said something like ‘You’ve got the next great world striker, you've got no idea what you’ve just signed’ 😎

If Woltemade is better than Isak, oh how I will laugh.

130m and a better Isak? Yes please.

Above all else it speaks to how desperate Germans are for a genuine world class striker.

Muller spend a lot of time there from my memory because (and was vocal about how he didn't like being called a striker) the alternatives just weren't good enough.

Was Klinsmann their last one?

Would Bierhoff or Klose be considered of that level?
