We were not learning anything from that game You didn’t miss much. Opposition looked sharper all over the pitch the 45 I saw. He still should’ve scored with the header and got a shot off with a better touch from the Wirtz through ball. What do you think we will do with him radically different? More of a critique of your predictable posting style. Safety

He'll be sound with Sandro and Bruno pinging it to his feet not Wirtz slowing dallying on it for ages before giving it away. Will also have two wide men flying forward either side to play in, or that will create space for him by pushing the defensive line of the opposition back. Appears this German side are trying to play some bootleg version of Pep ball and don't use any wingers either. It was awful.

Honestly I’ve no idea really but to take a guess i Think we’ll get it in to his feel a lot quicker and use him to hold it up and link up with the wingers. The little I saw Germany took an age to get the ball anywhere near him. Their attacking play was a hell of a lot slower than ours. I also wonder if there’s plans to play him & Wissa together his hold up play and quick feet would be ideal for Wissa I’m just glad he’s got 90 mins under his belt and looks to have came thru unscathed as I say other than that there was nothing to be learned Edited September 4, 2025 by gdm

et tu brute
Never was giving a chance to get really involved. The Germans for some reason were just happy to play across the park throughout the 90 minutes, even when they were two nil down. That was one of the worst German team performances I've ever seen. Conjo
Germany should have tried to play the ball to his feet through the center and have him him try to play overlapping wingers through on goal rather than shuttling the ball out wide all the time so their wingers could pass the ball back to their defence. The few times he got the ball with back to goal he fended off two-three players and found a team mate.

I’m pretty sure in that instance we generally play a diagonal to one of our wingers who either win it, or look to pressure the fullback into a throw or high turnover. i don’t suddenly expect us to start lumping it up to this lad, if anything I’d expect him to drop deeper, receive the ball into feet and then lay it off to a team mate quickly

Mattoon
Can't really judge him on that, they didn't even give him scraps to feed off, happy just to play in front of the Slovakian defence, that was a very Southgate performance, slow, laboured and zero dynamism. Bring Woltemade into play by allowing him to drop deep in attack and release the wingers past their markers instead of playing them into dead ends. Poorest Germany performance I've seen since Michael Owen put 3 past them in 2001.

Thought Isak was very poor holding up play or getting us up the pitch when under severe pressure. Was hoping the different profile in physique would finally give us that option. The winger option never seemed to work against the top teams suffocating us. Talking about Man City and Liverpool away in particular. Though against Arsenal and Chelsea it’d be useful also. The lad has the physicality to possibly add this to his game in time, I’m sure training against Burn, Schar and Botman will quickly have him up to speed on how strong and sharp he'll have to be going forwards. I mean much of this is moot anyway as I suspect it'll be Wissa starting the majority of games until, the AFCON regardless.

Elma
Watched the game but don't worry about him. I've complete confidence in Eddie and the coaches to come up with a system that elevates both him, and our other new signings, getting the most from them whilst developing them individually as players. Looking at their respective styles it'll probably be easier to integrate Wissa, but Nick will get there too.

I disagree with this sentiment. After this international break we've got a game on average every 3⅔ days. That's going to require us to rotate regularly. I imagine Howe will trust Wissa more with his age/experience in the Prem, but there'll be minutes all over the place. Here's hoping injuries don't stifle us. 🤞 Edited September 4, 2025 by Casey
Doctor Zaius
I think the Wissa signing is so important for Woltemade. Takes the pressure off and gives him some room to develop. I feel like he doesn't necessarily have to hit the ground running. I reckon there'll be a fair teething period. He might well struggle with the physicality, he might struggle with the pace but he should have plenty of time to get up to speed. I think Howe will be cautious with him and rightly so, and we might not see as much of him as you'd necessarily expect of a 60m player initially. Having said that, he will off us something completely different.
