Pleased with how easy he made a couple of his cushioned headers look, sounds daft for a player who's 6ft 6 like, but I'd have been a bit gutted if we'd bought another giant who's useless going long

Still looks like there's a lot to work on with his positioning for long balls too, so he'll probably get even better.

Been thinking the same. Murphy and Barnes don’t have the pace.

Murphy doesn't have the killer instinct either. He was put through one on one against the keeper and his first instinct was to pull wider and look to cross instead of just going for goal.

We played loads of games where Isak just wasn't involved.

I'm not sure I would tell Woltemade to just get in the box more TBH, that would negate one of his main strengths. Maybe more a question of timing his drops deep so he can still get forward enough to threaten the goal. Dunno.

Murphy has a wand of a right foot, not disputing that, you can find videos of wonder strikes by most players. I just don't think he's a natural goal scorer, that's why when he was put through yesterday he went wide instead of arrowing in on the goal.

If Woltemade is going to be our main striker, then he needs forwards either side of him who are hunting goals. Murphy's not that, he's a supplier, better suited to the Isak type.

Watched a bit of the game back last night. Felt the same as watching it in real-time - some lovely touches and little movements to open up spaces for others, we just didn't have the structure or support around him to really make it count. Quite a few times he's wanting an earlier ball to feet once he's got his man pinned as well. He was getting more demanding as the game wore on which is a good sign - he seems a very chill person so a worry might've been that he's not forceful enough on the pitch but he was pretty vocal yesterday.

Bruno is really, really good at those earlier passes so I think we'll see them strike up a good relationship over time. Hall often looks for earlier direct balls to feet too.

Stamina-wise, he's got a bit to go, but he's a very natural & calm footballer who doesn't seem to be struggling with the pace of the game much, in terms of getting caught wanting more time on the ball.

Nah I agree. He is weird though, when he occasionally acts on instinct he pulls off incredible things.

The other thing we need with Woltemade as striker alongside Gordon / Elanga having a prolong run on the wings, is one of the CMs running beyond him when he drops deep.

Tonali can be that, but then we also need him to cover. Joelinton probably needs to reinvent himself for a 2nd time. Let Tonali be the tackling machine deeper, and Joe charging forward so he’s at less risk of injuries from tackles.

needs to trust his shot more, at home v Wolves he was having pops at goal and yesterday he was doing the safe shite.

I'd like to see that with big Joe, but don't know if he has the decision making or passing ability. Feel like when we need him as the midfielder to be released forward by Bruno/Tonali, passes get misplaced or he runs into trouble as often as he's effective. Hopefully Ramsey can stay fit

I would imagine that was the thinking in getting Ramsey in.

Missed the last 2 games, but agree with those saying we need a midfielder making runs in behind when he drops deep

Should work well with his ability, plus dragging the opposition CB's out. Villa done it to perfection last season against us with Watkins and Rogers.

Deffo wanting a prolific midfielder if we do this though, Gordon and Elanga aren't going to be our Salah and Mane, so hopefully Ramsey/Joelinton can contribute this season

Also noticed we done a box midfield at times recently, nice to see something new from the Edward
