He's scored a decent amount of goals so far in a season where hes acclimatising to a different league. He reminds me a bit of Kai Haverts in the way that he plays better when the pressure isn't solely on him to score. He's a playmaker, he provides that bit of magic and a delectable touch that we've been screaming out for,for years.

I just can't see Howe consistently playing him in a position that suits so,as much as I love him, if we can double our money (if he has a good world cup) that may be what's best for him and the club.

I'd rather he was a Newcastle player for a good few years though.

If we can teach him how to tackle and shoot from distance (and bulk him up a bit) I reckon he'd be a great attacking midfielder who creates and occasionally and gets into the box when attacking.

Double our money? Christ.

I don’t Joelinton was ever worth the money we paid tbh - nor do I think he was ever one of the best midfielders in the country.  His best form came with him ahead of Willock which was more like a LW.

Couldn't disagree more tbh, £40m for what Joelinton has offered us is excellent value. He has been and remains integral to our team at our fully functioning best, and I recall Szoboszlai saying he was the most difficult opponent he had come up against in the Premier League.

I think because of his injuries and dip in form, many forget just how good he was continually for such a long period of time.

Just catching up with posts after Saturdays match, but pleased for him that he played the full match, and grabbed a goal. Hopefully do his confidence a world of good, and he gets a bit of a run, even if its in the slightly deeper position.

I ain’t digging anyone but if you look back at the summer transfer window, the overall “success rate” is horrible. Even Kudus, the one we thought a sure win one at that price, failed to make an impact for Spurs. Liverpool also overpaid for two players which make this there worst window ever. Nevermind our own Miss

I genuinely think if we sell Nick and spend that money on another striker, the chance that we get a better one is lower than 50%, or even 30%.

Hopefully we have a functioning team in place now so that the transfers last summer doesn't set the standard going forward.

But anyways I'll stop arguing that we should sell him, it's only theoretical anyways as I doubt we would get our money back as things look now.

I think there are striking similarities between Nick and Kai Havertz, similar languid stride, upright posture, and a smooth touch that makes everything look effortless. Both tall, technical attackers who drift between midfield and forward lines, using intelligence and timing rather than pure explosiveness to influence the game.

There’s a deceptive quality to their movement, they don’t always appear explosive, yet they consistently arrive in dangerous pockets, comfortable receiving the ball on the half-turn, linking play with quick combinations, and drifting between the lines rather than pinning themselves to the last defender. Neither is a traditional target man despite their size, and operate almost as hybrid attackers, part midfielder, part forward.

The he looks weak or is lightweight narrative seems a little lazy and too simplistic, physical effectiveness isn’t always about crunching tackles or visible aggression, it’s about balance, timing, and knowing when to engage, it’s easy to equate elegance with fragility, and looking weak and being weak are entirely different things. The Premier League will expose truly lightweight players very quickly the fact Big Nick has scored and contributed early on suggests there’s more steel there than first impressions suggest.

The bigger question isn’t whether he’s aggressive enough, it’s whether the system maximises his strengths. Havertz flourished most when given freedom to drift and combine, not when asked to play as a traditional battering ram. If Woltemade is judged purely on how forcefully he contests aerial duels, he will always divide opinion.

It’s clear given the pursuit of Pedro, Ekitike & Mbeumo that we we very keen for a different profile of striker, rather than a traditional number nine type, so with some time, patience and potentially some training ground work, we will hopefully see Big Nick flourishing in a more withdrawn hybrid ,midfield/attack role like the weekend at Aston Villa.

People should judge him on what he actually is as opposed to what they expected him to be, dismissing a technically gifted player says more about impatience than potential and football history is full of players who looked underwhelming early on until suddenly they weren’t. See Joelinton, and arguably, Isak, Gordon, Sandro and many more.

Some want him peddled already[emoji38]

The obviously technically gifted player that we have been crying out for for some time that offers something different is here before us and he's being written off before he's hardly got started and Eddie has had limited time to implement his ideas for him due to a relentless fixture list. Wew.

Crazy take, he's dipped a bit now but he was arguably the best player of the first Howe season (He literally won our player of the year award.) I think there's a good chance we would have went down without him in the squad, as he was one of the early players to pick up form, and that alone is worth what we paid for him.

That's also ignoring the following two seasons where he was still amongst the best players in the squad, which is a good return for a £40 mil these days.

Joelinton has been a big factor in us not getting bullied in midfield as much the last few years, especially against the bigger sides at home. Nobody turns up expecting an easy ride when he's in our team.

He's had his ups and downs but overall has turned out to be an outstanding signing.

Yeah I don't get that more of a winger thing with big Joe. He was very good dovetailing with Willock on the left flank for a spell, but the rest of the time when he was fit and in form he was resembling a one mam wrecking ball in midfield,we rarely lost when he was in the mood

How good do people think Woltemade is technically?

Hes good technically for me but not better than the likes of Wirtz or Havertz. A level down from them imo.  For Woltemade to maximise his career he has to use his body better imo.  His size is an unfair advantage that he needs to learn to use better.  I remember when Fellaini played as a supporting striker.  He just couldn’t be stopped. He’d pell off onto a fullback And then play, Woltemade has to do more of that.

From what I remember Wirtz has great technique with hitting ball, passing and shooting. Maybe dribbling isn’t a big strength, he’s not quick, not powerful and doesn’t have insane skillzz.

I think Havertz as a great 1st touch tbf. It hasn’t clicked for him the Prem really. Makes it hard to judge. Has looked like he’s rushed things when his technique should give him a little more time. Maybe he overthinks stuff.

Wolt I think has very good technique. Good dribbling, good passer of the ball. Yet to see him really hitting the ball on goal with any conviction (regularly ).

Completely agree that he needs to be more of a bully. When you’re that big, throw it around and scare people. Pick on the weakest, make it moody.

Haven't seen enough of Wirtz but a level down from Havertz, pffft

For me - just in terms of first touch and ball striking from open play

I think Woltemade is good at close control dribbling. Has more flair, flicks etc.  I also don’t rate Havertz particularly highly either - he doesn’t have top level mentality.

I just don’t see Woltemade as a Berbatov-esque baller that can offer little physically and succeed.  He has to find a way to offer something physically.

If we had a 5’8 player that wasn’t particularly mobile or quick, not a great athlete, not a great engine, doesn’t put a tackle in etc. he’d have to be a super technician to succeed at £60m right?

Bruno is almost that but he’s a workhorse -and he is a supreme baller.
