Newcastle United's best 3 transfers since 2020

There's a fair amount of denial if you're not saying Isak, like. He left under a cloud but he was absolute dynamite and there's no way we have the success without that calibre of striker imo. Also a massive victory financially, despite us supposedly failing by not holding out for more than £130million.

Isak, Bruno and then a shootout between Trippier and Burn. Tripps for me; just an incredibly influential signing.

It depends on what you mean by most important signing though. In terms of what they brought to the club, it's those three.

Tonali is our best player now, Isak was. Those three are the heart and soul.

I took the question to mean the most important transfers. That's why I picked out Trippier, Bruno, Burn.

By "our best player" I assume you mean Bruno, Tonali, or Isak.

Tonali is our best player by some distance imo.

Joelinton for the redemption arc.

Tonali for the fact that we don’t turn our backs in times of struggle.

Bruno for just about everything he represents.

Ah, just noticed 2020! Has to be Trippier, then!

Yeah, I was thinking Burn, Trippier and Bruno aswell. Absolutely transformed us and had the most impact coming in early, and has helped us through every achievement. The 3 of them didn't even cost much.

What a legendary window that was. I'm still struggling to comprehend how ridiculously good the decisions from that season was. First Howe to start it off, and then probably the best window I've ever witnessed considering where we were and how much we could spend. Even crazier to think that it was a january window. Before that window we thought that we were going down.[emoji38]

Now who's being condescending? :coolsmiley:

Trippier should definitely be in there, either way you look at it, his all round play to begin with, his nous ever since, the value for the fee and the Kilcline factor.

Burn and Bruno.

This is actually really difficult. Bruno is #1 for me for the combination of ability relative to price, making a statement, helping save us and helping us qualify for the CL and win a trophy.

Tonali is incredible and quite the coup, but I'd say the suspension still drops him below other options.

Trippier, Burn, and Isak can all be all be argued for different reasons.

I used this expression with how I felt about our transfer window despite the whole Isak thing, but it applies to Isak's career here as a whole now for me.

"But apart from that how was the play Mrs Lincoln?"

It ruined everything, nothing about him and his time here is viewed positively anymore because what happened was so massive and destructive. It can't be put to one side. I don't think he'd be a top 3 transfer for me anyway tbh, Trippier and Bruno are non-negotiable for me.

No Isak in the same way as no Cole or Shearer under Keegan.  Beadsley, Lee, Venison - arguably Ginola, Beresford, Kilcline were better in my interpretation of "best transfers"  - finds, value, service ie.  Ferdinand plugged in before and after each of them but who gives us what Beardsley and Lee did.

Whose the best 3 players is an intirely different question for me.

Totally get that his actions have tarnished his legacy but he scored 62 goals in basically two and a half seasons, including the winner in the cup final. I absolutely adore Dan Burn and if it wasn't for Trippier he'd be a shoe-in, but I don't think you can look past a striker signing who turned to ashes the 'best since Shearer' debate.

It's Howe, Trippier, Bruno in that order imo, or if only players then Trippier, Bruno, Burn.

Yeah agree with this.

That first January window was absolutely remarkable in hindsight given where we were.

Joe was 2019 so you can't have him

Edit: well edited

Bruno, Trippier, Tonali

Trippier should never have joined us, a player in a CL squad leaving to join a PL club in the relegation zone. It was an incredible transfer at the time and along with a Bruno helped change everyone's perception of us, that we weren't content being also-rans. A real bit of class added to the squad exactly when it needed it most.

Sandro is just one of the best midfielders I've seen in the Premier League.
