So did Burnley tbf

I mean, they didn’t really. But I take your point that Liverpool have been pretty bad at home this season.

Hopefully we can get up for it. Seeing as it’s a European game against a big name. But the last two games have been a bit deflating and based on their  Liverpool win. I think they will cause us no end of bother on the break.

The marathon continues. The ESL clubs and their thirst for more games / revenue draining the fun out of it. Feels a bit of a slog at the moment.

Four games to go before we enter (or don't) the knockout stage. Slog and a half.

I suppose there's some jeopardy on Wednesday because if we lose both it and PSG we'll probably be out.

Feel fairly ambivalent at this point really, beyond wanting to avoid the ignominy of contriving to get knocked out from such a good position.

It doesn't feel like we have a purpose in this competition. At least with the traditional group stage there's almost like a self-contained competition within the competition. With this it just amplifies your identity as an also-ran.

That said, I am looking forward to the game itself in the hope that the slightly more heightened stakes produce a bit of an occasion.

we are 99.9% guaranteed some games, only jeopardy imo is if we finish in top half or not, giving us home game second, which seems vital after last weeks flat atmosphere.

I was at that game.  We were awful.

Yep, as much as I’ve tried to expunge it from the memory banks, I can still remember it.  Amazing how quickly a good side / squad can be dismantled through negativity and incompetence.

You're all over the gaff here, Yorkie.

Aye you're probably right. I'm somewhere between reveling in us being in Europe but resenting the competition itself. Mixed feelings for sure.

Felt the same mainly due to the lack of occasion the new format gives to the CL games now. But weirdly after doing the result predictor I posted on the previous page and seeing some of the potential ties we could get has me right back up for this. It’s the league that’s getting mundane now pour moi.

The three teams on 6 points are Benfica, Pafos and Union. They play Juve, Chelsea and Bayern respectively this week. Copenhagen and Napoli on 7 points play each other.

We're almost certainly through. PSV are a good side, but we can attack this like we have all our CL home games this season. Should be an open game that, at least from an attacking standpoint, will suit us much more than yesterday did. We'll be fine.

Hopefully Miley back at right-back as I thought Trippier looked knackered towards the end yesterday. Would guess Ramsey comes into the midfield after not playing. Maybe a start for Elanga based on him looking competent when he came on.

What do we need to make the play offs,I haven't been paying enough attention

Probably nothing as the teams below the cut off have horrible games coming up but a point across the next 2 games and not getting horrendously pumped by PSG puts us through.

Zero more points could well get us through, it seems. High stakes indeed.

For people complaining that many games have been boring this season, well this game definitely shouldn't be that.

In the 19 league games PSV have played this season there's been 82 goals. 2 games in the Dutch Cup have seen 8 goals. In their 6 Champions League games there's been 26 goals (obviously putting a combined 10 goals past Napoli and Liverpool has boosted that) but goals are pretty much guaranteed.

So that's 116 goals so far in matches involving PSV this season and we're only into January. They rarely keep clean sheets and despite being 16 points clear at the top of the league they still concede more than a goal a game. Their strength is definitely in attack. Defensively they are very weak. On the transition though they are genuinely as good as anything in Europe. They can go from defending their own box to scoring a goal in the blink of an eye. They break at lightning speed. I was fortunate to be at Anfield for the 4-1 game in November and Liverpool just couldn't get to grips with it at all and were caught out time and time again, and in the end it could have been more than 4.

It definitely won't finish 0-0. I can pretty much guarantee that!

I see Saibari’s suspended, although probably questionable whether he would have played so soon after AFCON anyway.

Big miss?

Aye he's a huge miss. Massive player for them. Arguably the player of the season. He'll likely be sold in the summer for upwards of £50m I expect. Considering they've played most the season with both strikers out injured and have been using a CM as CF, as will be the case on Wednesday to have racked up 116 goals so far is nothing short of astonishing really. Van Bommel is another great attacking player (plays out wide) and he's been out most of the season as well.

The coach Peter Bosz has done a remarkable job really.

Canny boring this league phase if you ask me

The start is fun, then the end is interesting, but the vast middle is tedious and dull.

It's sort of sapped the magic of the Champion's League away.

There's an unbelievable amount of games. It must be so draining on Howe and team, and also pockets of the hardcore fans, not sure how they do it.

I think it'll start to show in teams determination to achieve Champion's League football. No longer can you have a few lucky results and get to the quarter finals. Get a champions league spot and you're guaranteed 8 games but you'll essentially never get very far without a massive squad and huge expenditure, and you'll probably tank your league form alongside it.
