Actually ... wonder how the Real Madrid angle plays into this.

We had to agree to some condition with them too right? God I would love it if Real Madrid refuse him going to Liverpool and activate their buy back.

Real have 48hrs from when Liverpool made the offer to trigger the clause they have.

I don't think they do.

Chelsea went down this route spending over a billion, instead of just trying to get good players in to improve their team and it has backfired massively. The better players are now starting to get fed up and are looking to leave the club.

I was reading just yesterday that the young Spurs centre back Vuskovic that has been getting rave reviews in Germany, is now saying he's fed up of going out on loan and wants to leave Tottenham. They've already signed two more centre backs this summer when they should be trying to integrate him into the team.

I think these clubs are crazy honestly. I don't think this master plan is going to play out the way they imagine it will. These are clubs that actually have decent academies that also already produce good talent too, and it's messing those kids up as well.

They paid €11 million for Vuskovic last summer and now his market value is €60m on TM. Not the best example on the failures of hoarding young players.

He's asking to leave the club and no one is going to bid 60 million Euros for him.

Yes, this sounds like wages and prestige driven. Stuff we can't do anything about. Any decent agent will know and push potential buying clubs.

I think Liverpool had a worse summer than us last time, and are now very scattergun with their recruitment, but the ones they buy who we were interested in, Szobo and Ekitike, have been the best ones. :(

They'll probably still turn a profit. It's bad for the player and bad for the game in general but not particularly bad for Spurs.

Make any excuse you like.

This is an utter embarrassment. We’ve pissed about for 2 or 3 million quid and lost out.

If he’s the number 1 target to replace Gordon, do the deal before Liverpool even sort their new manager out. Trigger the clause and wrap it up.

I’m ever the optimist, and I’m always quick to defend the club/set up/strategy whatever, but this is embarrassing.

Painfully slow, snails pace in making every single decision ,time after time.

I’m bored.

Or, we put out a bid, it was accepted, and his agent got on the blower to every cunt around and one of them matched it and we’re not in Europe and have minimal gravitas, and thus a player chose elsewhere.

Or your hysterical take. Whatever you prefer.

They’ll make a huge profit in any case man.

I’m sure there are other better options to have a go at Spurs than them paying €11m for Vuskovic last summer.

Player hoarding is a great strategy for them, especially if the entry price is low.

Sucks for us and sucks the game but this is the market we are in.

Yeah, I'm just not convinced this is typically the case for most of these sorts of signings.

Was it? Where’s that?

and maybe it was, but it wasn’t the release clause.

why wasn’t that triggered immediately? What would we have saved? £3m? £4m? It’s barmy.

Lee Ryder tweeted it.

It's obviously a combination of factors as to why we keep missing out on players mind.

So why didn’t we just trigger the release clause like Liverpool did? Why have we haggled and haggled?

even if it was, we’ve pissed about haggling over £3m or so and lost out.

We can’t even seal deals quickly where we don’t even have to negotiate on price.

It’s rubbish. Again.
