Discussing the relocation of the ground with mates at work yesterday and the overwhelming consensus was to move next to the river at the Arena site. Someone mentioned they had heard that NUFC might have talked to the architects at Everton's new ground about the logistics of building next to a river. Has anyone else heard anything like that?

Yeah, they are working with people who were involved in the Everton stadium, but that doesn’t mean they will be going to the waters edge, it could be for anything.

They are also working with people who did the Sofi stadium, and the Mercedes Benz stadium.

The club need to move heaven and earth to try and make the arena site a possibility.

Not only would it look outstanding perched right on the river, but that corner of the city centre could do with some investment. You’d imagine a new ground would have some sort of impact.

It would likely be utterly transformative for that post-industrial part of town. Hard to envisage it now but, with its central location and proximity to the river, it could become a desirable neighbourhood.

Has the arena site not already been sold and a development is in motion?

I think people are hoping that as no development has begun there's scope for our rich owners to do a deal still.

it was class - my 14 year old lad went once with me and until its finally been demolished would ask when it was reopening. He must have been around 8/9 when I took him

Rights there was

Water slides, lazy river, waves, teenage fingeblasting, teachers wanking off pupils in a jacuzzi, razor blades in the slides, perverts drilling peep holes in the walls of the unisex changing cubicles, water riddled with bacteria

It was a fun day out for all the family

It’s been discussed recently in the ‘Newcastle’ thread in chat. There’s a video of a guy walking round it before it was demolished

towards the bottom of the page it starts

Homes England have taken ownership, but they usually do things like take out top soil that is contaminated, and put in access roads, then sell the land onto developers.

Homes England would sell up straight away if they were able to gain a profit without having to do any of that, and also had some land available elsewhere in the region to offset it.

Until they start works, they will be open to offers.

I'd imagine that if they're offered enough, they'll be open to offers right up until they sell the first house on to someone else.

I think Development has begun on that site, not the Arrna footprint itself  but some of the rest of it.

Am I the only one who thinks the Area site would be shit? Building in Leazes park would be far better than trudging down to the arena.

It would be fucking cold in winter but look great from the train arriving in town from Laandan.

No doubt it’s bleak down that way especially in winter, however it could also transform and grow that part of the City.

I would prefer Leazes Park but if that’s not a goer I think we should seriously consider it as an option.

I really don’t see the appeal of the Arena site. It’d cost a fortune, the infrastructure surrounding it would need a complete rework. You might get a good view coming in from the South by rail or Redheugh but that’s it.

It’s bad enough getting around there with a 11k arena, I can’t imagine how you’d cope with 65-70k piling out.

From a public transport point of view, unless you are coming in via Central station, it would be fucking shit.

SJP is just around the corner from the 2 major bus stations in Newcastle, it is also within walking distance to all the city centre Metro stations, and Jesmond Metro station.

The Arena is a bit much of a walk, and if we have a late KO or a midweek match, you aren’t making it to Haymarket or Eldon Square bus station in time for the last busses if you leave at full time.

I do think that area of Newcastle needs something to regenerate it, and a new arena would work well, or even a smaller stadium for the Falcons, but for NUFC, it would be the lesser of any city centre options really.
