I totally get why people would find such an extension underwhelming but I also don’t think 8k extra seats is as insignificant as people are making out.

Shit answer this but just something that when people look at it they think NUFC. Similar to how we have the two towering stands now with the views across the city, to even another city.

 

I’m not sure how you can achieve that uniqueness, mind. 
 

Also with any stadium I’d like the fans to basically be on top of the pitch. Apparently Everton’s new stadium is like that.

Yeah strongly agree with this. One big reason for my apprehensiveness over a new stadium is that we'll get something that looks utterly boring. I get why SJP isn't for everyone because that's the nature of architecture but at least it's distinct and, like you say, unique. Everton have at least tried to buck the trend to some extent but I think it looks more like an art gallery than a football stadium.

You don’t appoint a big hitter like Brad Miller to the board of directors to add 8,000 seats to the Gallowgate IMO.

Same - I love how distinct our stadium is.  Agree about on top of the pitch thing too - really don’t like at Arsenal and Spurs how far but low you feel as the rows go back.

The previous Castle Leazes stadium had a San Siro look, with a structure across the roof to resemble the Tyne Bridge.

 

Of all the wrap stadiums the Bernabau looks the best, but think that’s because they’ve kept the old steep seated structure inside the stadium, it’s a good example of old and new, something I thought they might try in a redevelopment of St James to accommodate the East Stand limitations.

 

If I was saying unique in this country I would go for a large single tier stand behind one goal, make it the biggest in Europe and all rail seating. Then behind one goal frame a view of the city with a glass window, such as the Atlanta and Minnesota NFL stadiums. The stands need to be steep and close to the pitch, hopefully more aesthetically pleasing from the outside than Spurs stadium, the large window would ensure that.

Would love a San Siro looking stadium but with a huge stand behind the goal. One of my favourite stadiums.

We've got such an easy way to make a new stadium unique and different....we are Newcastle...make it look like a castle.from the outside...preferably scary with gallows all around the outside

Churlish, but I'm hoping for more than 70,000. A 10k difference between a new SJP and a new stadium doesn't seem that dramatic.

This is exactly what I was thinking.  Most modern stadiums are just a bowl - I’d be happy to see something of a more modern take on a traditional English ground but with all the most modern of mod cons.  Like if Archibald Leitch and Buck Rogers’ love child was the designer.
