ponsaelius Posted yesterday at 12:11 Share Posted yesterday at 12:11 Obviously the footprint is approximated but still think that will end up being a nightmare at planning. Could see it taking forever and ultimately getting called into SoS if recommended for approval. I also still don't see how you build it without some time spent elsewhere during construction, the amount of which would vary depending on final footprint. Still think Castle Leazes would be far easier...
AyeDubbleYoo Posted yesterday at 12:13 Share Posted yesterday at 12:13 I understand the qualms about bowls TBH, I would hope that something cool could be done with the exterior. Personally I love the ones that light up and have cool modern materials not he outside, but I get it may not be to everyone's tastes. I've raved about the experience of Spurs stadium before, couldn't believe how great it was. If you combined the scale and drama of that with getting the right groups of Geordies in the right places, you could genuinely produce the best atmosphere anywhere. Of course I will miss SJP a hell of a lot and be sad to see it go.
Decky Posted yesterday at 12:13 Share Posted yesterday at 12:13 I think that proposal is easily the best one if we want to expand properly. The alternative option of expanding the Gallowgate isn't bad either but it's hard to accept that the East Stand will never get expanded. Realistically the East Stand would need a rebuild too and the rest of the ground needs a big refurb.

This is far from done. Just heirarchy at the club are leaning towards recommending this option to the PIF.

MagCA Posted yesterday at 12:22 Share Posted yesterday at 12:22 If they commit to creating green space elsewhere in the city and taking on the upkeep of the remaining parts of Leazes Park I could see the council backing this proposal.

ponsaelius Posted yesterday at 12:28 Share Posted yesterday at 12:28 1 minute ago, JonBez comesock said: The Council love money , PIF have money The council politically will have a lot of motivation to take the investment no doubt, particularly if it includes the club taking on long term maintenance of a new expanded LP around the stadium or the council getting a load of cash to do so. The issue is the various statutory bodies involved in the process. I personally don't think you're ever going to get Historic England to do anything other than object to this in the strongest terms - and that will mean any approval from the council needing to go against their objection. So you're almost certainly looking at it ending up getting called into the SoS and that could mean we're years and years away from a spade in the ground. I know the Castle Leazes plan also had the same threat to it in the 90s (hence why SJH dumped it) but I do think that would be a far easier sell this time around (particularly if you're not retaining anything but parkland on SJP). Perhaps that's the fall-back option if this doesn't sail. Not unusual to have another option held back up your sleeve.
Dr.Spaceman Posted yesterday at 12:28 Share Posted yesterday at 12:28 (edited) PIF could literally buy off everyone in Tyneside with a nominal fraction of their pocket change if they felt like they needed to. Went for the away game and my take aways were - big ring of corporate around 3/4 of the ground was grim, lacked character, view from 10th row was substantially worse than would be from equivalent of SJP. Caveat that didn't go to bar. Atmosphere was also proper shit - but don't think can pin that on stadium much.
Superior Acuña Posted yesterday at 12:33 Share Posted yesterday at 12:33 If we're moving I'm a big fan of that footprint, as close as possible to original site. Obviously wondering what that means for attendance during construction.
