Fenham Mag
I really don't think the stadium is a big part of our identity to be honest. Yes, the location is key to our identity, with the city centre buzz and the pre/post match pubs, but the actual stadium is not. It has changed so much from it's original format and moving the stadium footprint a few hundred yards up Barrack Road will not change much. A new stadium is exciting and will propel the club to the next level. Fingers crossed that is the choice they go with.
Kid Icarus
It's all down to each person. The stadium is without question a big part of our identity to me and others. For others it won't be, there's no blanket statement that you can apply to the whole fanbase.
mattypnufc
Sick to death of both arguments now. Wish they'd just fucking get on with making a decision and announce it, and thats that. Edited February 24 by mattypnufc

I think that the majority of people who support Newcastle United have come to realise that (sadly) staying at the current St James' Park would condemn our club to perpetual 'relative' mediocrity. Moving to a new stadium holding (hopefully) 75,000 people, that is almost in the same City Centre location as SJP (just a little bit further into Leazes Park) gives the supporters and the club the very best of all worlds. Significantly, we will then be able to start making progress against the Cartel of the Sky 6 and the Premier League. It will be G L O R I O U S !!!!!!!!! Lose that, we lose a part of Newcastle United's identity and we become a Man City tourist club. IMO. The history of the current ground goes back 25 years, half of which were utterly horrific and not to be remembered fondly.

et tu brute
The team comes first every single time. Every stand has been replaced and we don't even own the land it sits on. I've been attending games since 1973 when the East Stand opened and I'm still waiting to see us win something. Thankfully the owners and the majority of supporters realise what is required to take the team to the next level and beyond

To break the ritual would mean bad luck At the time it was suggested that their ritual had achieved absolutely fuck all for NUFC and it was therefore pointless It's interesting from a psychological perspective how people will cling to things because it's what they've always known or done, rather than seeing change as a potential harbinger of positivity Edited February 24 by bobbydazzla

Gate4
I think people would be better served by putting their energy, however they can affect things, into making sure the new stadium is not a lame design (i.e. some generic soulless bowl) rather than advocating staying at SJP. As someone who has attended SJP (and loved it) since 1968, I can confirm that the current SJP is a very recent incarnation and is only about 25 years old. The proposed "Leazes Park Stadium" will be light years better for the club than the recent version of SJP and (as mentioned earlier) will cover part of the same 'footprint' as SJP, from all the information we currently have. It will be G R E A T !!!!!

Ugh still a long wait in that case then. I'm assuming that will be the avenue of consultation with the fans.
pinkeye
There are three of us that go together to the match. Some difference of opinion between us all as to whether we feel we should stay or move to a new stadium. Me - I am the oldest by a fair margin and had my season ticket for way longer. I would like to move to new stadium. We all sit in the East Stand, anyone who sits in the East stand will confirm that it is really not fit for purpose, the concouses are a mess and way too small (narrow). The toilets are a disaster and a biohazard. My 19 year old son - Absolutely wants to stay put in the current stadium, he feels the ground could be improved considerably with some layout changes and some money spending on the facilities, such as toilets. He is convinced that a new stadium would become a soulless bowl of silence. My mate - Somewhat undecided, can see reasons to move to a new stadium and reasons to stay. So that is a straw poll of the three of us and I would bet that loads of people that are lucky enough to have season tickets have similar views. Dr.Spaceman
I'm firmly in favour of a new ground but if we can improve SJP significantly to the point where it's essentially unrecognisable inside then great.

Similar to plonking whole new stands on the Gallowgate, Milburn and Leazes. Just save money and buy new, rather than limping on in what we’re in. The league is moving on, I’d rather us not be Luddites.
vic
Evertons Bramley Moor Dock stadium looks fantastic with really steep stands and with the right investment they could be a real force in the coming years.
JT24
Ultimately, we should be on the move if nothing can be done with the East Stand. The bonus is Leazes Terrace can be opened up more to the public.
Chicken Dancer
I always wanted to stay mainly because I found it quite fascinating that we had played on the same site for the entire history of the club, as well as all of my memories with friends and family - some who are no longer with me. The past 2 years have made me realise that we have to move. It's as simple as that. The next generation of fans won't give two shites about St James' as their memories will be made in the new place. For those of us who have been going our entire lives it's not a nice thing to think about, but as others have said - the current stadium is completely different to the one my Dad grew up with. And his would have (likely) been different to the one me Grandad used to go to. Times change. We need to maximise every penny of revenue that we can, and it's clear as day that moving stadium is the only option. In an ideal world we could extend St James' to 70-75k, I don't think there's anybody that wouldn't have that as their #1 option. But it's just not possible, so we have to move. As for worrying about the atmosphere in a new stadium...well what about the atmosphere in the current one? Too many of us, including myself, look back at past days of going on like lunatics at the match win, lose or draw. Football has changed. My Dad used to (and still does) go on about home & aways in the 70s/80s and how it was much better than now (talking about when I first started going away from home in the 00s). Now I look back and think 'God, it was so much better in the 00s than now'. As long as you get like-minded people together I'm confident there won't be too much of a detrimental effect on atmosphere. We might even be surprised.
The Butcher
Just 70 years since we last won a domestic trophy. SJP is cursed land and we've seen close to a lifetime of failure there. I love the place, but I'm firmly in the move camp. We need a fresh start.

TheGuv
I do wonder how many people want to move to a 65-70k stadium because they think it’ll increase their chance of getting in? I’d like to see the increased chances as a % (because it will increase). But I really don’t think it will be as good as many think it will be. I’ve already resigned myself that I’ll not be getting a season ticket if we stay or go. The atmosphere argument is also an interesting one - but that too has been done to death. But a newer stadium with increased attendance of day trippers and tourists in their thousands, along with the current ageing demographic of 30,000 ST holders won’t do much to change the atmosphere - even if you do make a Dortmund-esque wall. If PSR wasn’t such a cluster fuck of an idea (that may well not be here forever) I also wonder if there’d be such a push to move.
