Always said the Euro’s 2028 would pretty much confirm a new build due to the conflicting timescales as would only allow for minimal upgrades in a 2yr span.

Two Stack events (last night for Euro28) and 27th with the latter being attended by Hopkinson might shed more light on things though.

Yeah I’m interested in the 27th event. I don’t think we’ll get definitive info, but I hope we get some new hints at least.

I think we may know more about the club badge from that event as well.

Aye, because nothing is going to happen.

No...clearly too costly for even PIF to stomach. An extension would be almost as much as a new stadium, and no matter what the nay-sayers on here say a large cheque would make the environmentalists saying Leazes Park is essential for environment/conservation (in reality a few permanently angry dog walkers)  go away. Best we can hope for in the short to medium term is a spruce up...no serious expansion/move until the concrete crumbles so much its unsafe

Of course nothing will happen between now and then. We are 2 and a half years away from the Euro’s. Planning alone could take 18 months or so.

I mean nothing will happen at all.

We’re being strung along by a conspiracy that includes the highest levels of the football club and Luke Edwards.

And also that insufferable YouTube twonk who said he knew for a fact from the Council that Leazers Terrace was being moved onto the tennis courts, brick by brick

Fuck me, that Ed couldn’t get the time right if he checked the time on an atomic clock.

It's going to have fuck all to do with delaying a new stadium. Why would it when there is no chance they would be upgrading St James'?

Extortionist costs for no real benefit. Building plans even for a new stadium would probably not be in place before 2028 anyway.

This, we are the best part of 10 years away from walking into a new stadium.

Well, that is one way of looking at it. Don't commit, have no Euros in Newcastle.

Or, commit to keeping the stadium ready for 4 group games and 1 quaterfinal, which will bring very good revenue stream across the local businesses to Newcastle and have a great positive impact to the city and region from all points of view. That's how I am looking at this, my beloved SJP will be in the Euros in 2028. get in.

A new stadium could get announced, approved and planning underway in nearby Leazes Park that won't even impact SJP.

If there’s a massive global financial crash on the way, that might also explain the wait and see approach, disappointing as that is.

no, it doesn’t. The red tape around development in the city centre is insanely hard and it’s crazy that people here from the city don’t seem to grasp that. There is no decent available land in the immediate vicinity that solves it for people and the club has 0 leverage so any seller or municipality holds all the cards and can charge any price they see fit.

Always amuses me when people have zero information and go doom and gloom. If you’re gonna make it up in your head why be so miserable?

90,000 seater, best acoustic venue on earth, 20,000 standing section with the current site developed into stunning public gardens for fans to wind their way through towards the ground. That’s what I heard from some gadgie.

He told me similar, over a pint.

The Euros would be the perfect time for final decisions to have been announced (long before, hopefully) and every game at St James' will have the world hearing about what's next.

If that's a new ground, then commentators will be mentioning "The famous ground will soon be gone", "The last big tournament to be held here" etc etc.

Would be a great way to get a worldwide audience interested.
