Why would they abandon the project?

Got the vibe that PSR type rules aren't going to last much longer anyway, so go kart track and access big enough for the Spice Girls reunion tour set no longer required

So SJP is on the list of venues for the 2035 women's world cup.

For those who aren't that good at maths, that's 10 whole years away. A decade.

Looks like we ain't getting no new stadium boys and girls....

It will be the new stadium, a proposal hasn’t officially went in yet for the women’s World Cup, and even when it does they’ll not go public on a new stadium that hasn’t been announced yet.

More chance of winning the WWC bid if they included the yet to be built but brand spanking new Sven Adult Books Magpie Megadome on their list, rather than the battered old rustbucket we've got currently

Not financially viable or too difficult to get suitable land.

It’s less financially viable to increase capacity and redevelop SJP though.

Unless it was demolished, pitch turned 90 degrees and they went with Aviva Stadium type solution to get around the light issue with Leazes Terrace.

They probably are in the bid book, but not publicly until the new stadium is announced.

Are you very confident that a new stadium will be built?

Very.

Another way of looking at it is that Man Utd’s stadium as it is now is in the bid.

Birmingham’s which no one is convinced will happen as seen is in the bid.

Chelsea’s in case they get Earls Court is in the bid.

Chelsea won't be moving to Earls Court.

15th highest average crowds in English football historically, despite having spent more of their history outside of the top flight than in it, never finishing higher than 6th and with only two LCs to shout about.  A successful BC could be a big club.

Successful is very hard to get to though. If they’re 13th in Prem, grinding out wins / getting whipped occasionally, that’s never going to fill out a 60k stadium.

Once you approach 60k mark, you are tipping into tourism, especially so if your base level is substantially lower. Be a white elephant a stadium that size for Birmingham. Good for the city though.

Saw something in the New York Times this week actually saying that a lot of PIF investments were getting putting on hold due to, get this, running low on money.

They’ve spread themselves thinly and made some really, really poor calls and investments.

Anyone that knows anything about them found all this stuff laughable because they do it again and again, but folks bought the bullshit because they think KSA has unlimited reserves of cash - but they absolutely don’t.
