Bigger capacity, modern facilities, better acoustics to help the atmosphere, a balanced layout rather than 2 massive stands and two smaller stands, to be able to see all parts of the ground from most seats in the ground,

A tannoy system (Partridge) that actually works properly. Large screens are necessary these days so having one or more that can be seen by the entire stadium.

Massive swathes of safe standing in at least 2 x single tier stands.

When it's not being used for football, a world class stadium that could be used to host music events and not require the compromises we have to make currently in terms of sound and layout.

Even just having enough female toilets so thousands of lasses didn't have to squat over a urinal trough at gigs would be a nice touch.

And that's just off the top of my head.

Ok. I understand a new stadium to make more money but I don’t understand how any of the rest of it improves things for watching a game of football. No other new stadium has improved the atmosphere, they’ve all got worse.

if you take the emotion or history away from it being where we’ve always played all of football just seems pointless. I’d just go and watch the best game every weekend rather than one club.

Yeah but apart from all that...

You are genuinely saying you'd see no point in supporting Newcastle United any longer, or going to watch Newcastle United play, if we moved 10 mins walk up the road ?

I think most people would prefer we stay at a redeveloped St James' Park. But we all know why that's very difficult because of the massive challenges of expanding on the current site.

By the way I honestly believe there are so many hurdles with building a city inside/close to the city centre, that this is fundamentally the reason why there will be no forthcoming announcement anytime soon. They know most fans are dead against anything in other areas outside of the centre, and that again has restricted the options.

These fact that increasing St James' will not only be wasted revenue with the cost due to the restrictions of location (against new seats available, impacting current revenue with decreased crowds whilst a new stand is built, and unable to make necessary improvements to the facilities due to the location and current structure of the ground) makes this option non viable also.

IMO there is a strong possibility that if they do go for a new stadium, it won't be in the vicinity of the city centre.

Again this only my opinion but a stadium outside of the city centre has more insurmountable issues than a redevelopment or castle leaves/LP job.

You simply can't magic up the transport infrastructure to support a 60-70k stadium in a peripheral location in Tyneside. There is no viable site.

No I didn’t mean that. But some of the argument for moving is that the ground is shit and it’s only the history and emotion that people like it. My argument is the new grounds are no better for the normal fan to watch a game in and the hopes of having a better atmosphere or it having better facilities are usually bollocks (other than corporate seats), so losing that history and emotional attachment should be important.

The most fans we’ve had at a different stadium is obviously Wembley. I’ve not heard loads of people saying how good Wembley was when it’s likely we’ll end up something similar.

It's completely understandable that some people like the current St James' Park. I don't disagree with that, or dispute that. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Personally, I don't like the building. I think it's badly dated, it's had very little maintenance or modernisation in 25 years and even when the newest bits were new it was a weird and cobbled together layout.

I think the location is iconic. I'd rather not move if we could avoid it. But I don't think it's possible to have a new stadium and stay where we are.

So if the decision is a) stay where we are in the current stadium for decades or b) move 10 mins walk away to a new stadium. Then I'm new stadium every single time.

Hardly breaking news considering how long it would take even just to build.[emoji38]

Well PIF have been here for over 4 years now and now we're being told we're at St James' Park for "years to come".

I'm 47 and starting to doubt if I'll ever see it [emoji38]

New grounds are better to watch a game in though. The back of the Gallowgate is shit, Level 7 is shit, the East Stand is shit if you're over 5'10".

Personally I'm not a fan of Wembley. However I've seen us play at the Millennium Stadium and it was superb. Great sight lines, steep stands. It made for an incredible atmosphere. Something not too dissimilar to that would suit me down to the ground, capacity and design wise.

I do find it symptomatic of our fan base that when presented with an opportunity to do something new or different (stadium or otherwise) the response from many is to seek out negative comparable examples and assume / insist that's what we'll end up with, rather than looking for the best in class examples and thinking that we could possibly try and emulate or exceed it.

I'm obviously massively attached to SJP but it's not really for anything specific about the design or the actual building. And it's really not for the atmosphere either, which is up and down but I can't see how moving would make it worse. It's just because of the amount of times I've been and how it feels like home.

Think this is a once in several lifetimes opportunity to build something immense. But it does have to be immense.

The comms around stadium expansion / redevelopment have been an absolute mess.

How has it? The club hasn't committed either way, which seems an entirely reasonable policy given the complexities of the topic.

Level 7 Milburn is good. Wouldnt swap it for my old Middle of the Middle Gallowgate

Nah howay man, we’ve had numerous on-the-record quotes from club officials to journos and fans over the past 18 months about a final decision being “close” and similar language.

Still not sure it's an "absolute mess." Like I say, they've just been non-committal. I think I can remember a soundbite from Eales but it's mostly been the journos, which is meaningless.

People are used to news and anxious for news but the lack of news doesn't mean something is a shambles or whatever. It's clearly extremely complicated, nothing like  Birmingham's case for instance.

If Hopkinson is going to increase revenue streams in other ways, which he has mentioned hes going to, the immediate need for a bigger stadium isn't as urgent.

I understand a lot of people can't get tickets though, currently.

Each to their own. I hate it. Just feel detached from the rest of the stadium. If you can get near the front and in the middle it's not too bad but anywhere else, well I'd rather watch on TV.

He seems like a nice enough bloke but it's like watching someone else's home videos. Tried sitting through one of them and switched it off after  5mins.  Absolutely nothing of any use to me, if someone else gets something out of them, have at it.

This has always been the issue going back to the days when SJH tried to build a new stadium back in the glory days of the 90s. There just seems to be so many hurdles in the way you can understand why it's not the most urgent project under development. That doesn't mean it won't happen, just there are obviously a lot of moving parts.
