May be wrong but I don't think there's a Merseyrail (Liverpool's far superior version of our metty) station near it either. There was a video posted earlier where some gadgie is walking from the city centre to the ground and it seems the location is awful. It wouldn’t be anywhere near as bad but I am glad we’re (seemingly) avoiding moving to the arena site.

The two times I've went to Goodison we've drank in Libpewl city centre and got the Merseyrail over to Kirkdale and had another couple in either the Royal Oak or Thomas Frost spewns. Proper working class (or edgy if that's more apt) feel about it with the terraced houses. Shame that it's losing that.

The Wilmslow (IIRC) is the definition of spitting distance form Goodison. Loads other class boozers such as the flat iron a short walk away too. Feels like a proper away day going there. Can see this new ken being like Old Trafford - bit of an industrial estate vibe. Shite.
Whitley mag Posted Tuesday at 07:49 Share Posted Tuesday at 07:49 I do like the roof design it looks quite impressive lit up blue at night and you can see the steel through the glass. It does look bland inside but think it’ll have a decent atmosphere, they’ve got the important aspects like close to pitch, steep stands and a big home end. On our stadium i’d love to see a window so you can view the City from inside the stadium, much like some of these newer US NFL stadiums, but think I’d be quite happy if we ended up with a 70k stadium with an intimate feel like that, where everyone seems on top of the action. Different to the norm new stadiums yet still samey. Would be a very bitter pill to fetch up with just a bigger version of that. Can’t unsee it as the a modern version of the Old White Hart Lane now. According to the write up in the Times the acoustics are great so should generate a great atmosphere. I think their fans will be happy once they get used to the idea of being out of Goodison. From an away fan perspective I always find getting to Anfield and Goodison a complete chew on from City Centre, on a nice day you could do a few city centre bars now and walk to their new ground. Yeah critique of the location is probably a bit cart before horse. In the next decade presumably a lot will pop up next to it, even if it's a bit crap now will be well worth it for them. Was reading about the escalators inside the new ground. I think fans will quickly come to appreciate modern amenities, even those who claim to be diehard traditionalists. Space is the issue more than traffic, that is generally less of an issue in city centres given the established public transport links to them. There just isn't the amount of developable space within or close to city centres usually. Newcastle is pretty unique in that with the moors.

Agree, we've seen ourselves the issues we have on expanding St James just what a quagmire of legal issues it raises. On the shite location in the middle of nowhere argument, I get that but it could be mitigated somwhat by building a stadium which is a destination in itself, with cafes, shops etc. I remember John Hall first mooted that idea when he was advocating building a complex on the town moor. If you stay city centre you probably come up against all sorts of planning permission and traffic issues. Not to labour this same point again but in terms of traffic/transport it is the opposite. It is much more of an issue the more peripheral you go from the established city core. Everton's stadium looks good to me but is going to have some issues due to its location. Firstly in terms of access/egress it faces the river/dock on three sides which makes dispersal of crowds hard enough as it is as you only have one side for access. Then this is made more difficult due to the listed wall they've had to retain on the remaining side - with a few accesses punched through. I can see getting 52k in and out a bit of a faff and people needing to get there very early. Transport wise it's a problem because there's only one Merseyrail station, which is past the ground and a bit of a walk in and of itself. At the moment there's not a lot around the ground - so you're going to have the bottleneck issue of people getting from the centre to the ground at the same time. This will obviously relent somewhat over time as that area is inevitably regenerated around the stadium - kind of the point of building it there - and it becomes more of a destination in itself over time. pedro111 Posted Tuesday at 14:12 Share Posted Tuesday at 14:12 (edited) Without bringing HGV wars back to the forum I do a delivery not far from the new Everton stadium, I drive right past it on the way out and yes it is all former dock/industrial areas, huge bonded warehouses and the Titanic dock etc. Absolutely terrible to drive around. Don't know if it needs some writing on the seats along the side spelling "Everton" or something like that but I was very underwhelmed when I seen it. Seen it described as both one of the generic FIFA grounds and a bigger version of White Hart Lane and it's hard to argue with either. Would like to think that with if we get a new ground a bit more imagination will be put into it.

A lot has been made of the steep-sided stands so it feels like the crowd are on top of the players, so might seem different when you are there, or even just seeing it full on TV. Or it might be shite.
