Sima
1719: Controversial news, this, from BBC Newcastle's Fiona Marley Paterson at Saint James' Park, where the torch had been scheduled to complete a tour of the pitch. "The Olympic Flame won't now be doing a lap of honour around the pitch at Newcastle United's ground - apparently because the ground is still sporting 'unofficial' advertising." Dave
Is it cynicism gone too far to suggest that this has been done on purpose to get the company name into the press for yet more free advertising?

Pons Alias
I was told some time ago that a) The renaming of the Stadium (it is a sports business) has a LOT to do with the Olympics. There was never any intention to sell it. b) Ashley is being VERY difficult in relation to the removal of sponsorship - which fair or not is part of the conditions. c) There is enough concern that an alternative venue down the road was/is being looked at. Interesting. With point A, does that mean that he may stop it after the Olympics? Or am i just clutching at straws?
AyeDubbleYoo
Why would he rename it specifically for the Olympics when sponsored stadia are expressly not allowed?
