Was stood next to that anchor bloke with the long face, Alan Smith, the transfer gimp (who ironically enough I only noticed when he was one of his phones) and some other Sky Sports folks at Central Station this evening. They got on the 19.02 to London Kings Cross. First class obviously. Rock and roll.

Alan Smith, waiting in his car outside some shops in Jesmond. He's back!

Well, he's not injured...

I spoke to Alan Smith last night prior to the game, he was sitting in the Club Gold Bar having a brew.

The conversation went like this:

Welldon : Hi Alan, good to have you at the club, why aren't you playing tonight, being rested ?

Smiffy : Nah.

Welldon : Oh right, so your injured ?

Smiffy : Nah.

Welldon : Oh ok, I was just asking as it said you were a doubt tonight on the OCS.

Smiffy : Nah, I ain't been injured for ages.

Welldon : Oh ok, thought you might have picked up a niggle at the Chesterfield game, that was some second half don't you think, you looked knackered at the end ?

Smiffy : That was like a F**king kids game !

Welldon : Bye Alan.

I think Luke Ashmeads job is safe for a while yet !!!

Now in case anyone thinks he was pissed with me because i was talking to him, when I walked in he had a face like a smacked arse, he looked more than pissed off, now it says on the OCS he was injured....but not according to Smiffy.

My guess is words were exchanged after the Chesterfield game.

Saw Roger Thames in Asda Gosforth last night, best moment of my life.

Saw him before the Norwich game buying a programme, he's literally a dwarf.

He's had a ST in the milburn for years and is indeed vertically challenged.

I once had an argument with him in the Leases car park.

Always remember down at Oakwell in the mid-90's playing Barnsley in the cup (0-1 Cole... I think) he was up in the gantry commentating and come FT a bunch of fans nearby removed the ladder leaving him and his colleagues stranded until help arrived...

Remember singing "we've got more hair than you, Roger Tames" to the tune of the BA advert as he was perched on top of the Gallowgate bogs in the west corner with his TTTV camera crew, just a few feet away from his adoring public.

How pampered the press are nowadays in comparison.
