It was done in London because we are playing Watford tomorrow. Shepherd and Sam will be staying down there over the weekend until Sunday evening once the match has finished.

There will be further discussions today culminating in a statement after the game imho

I like it how Geordie boy Shaun Custis & big Sams mate has tried to help Sam by writing "It will be a case of third-time lucky for Newcastle in their pursuit of Big Sam.

A combination of his loyalty to Bolton and Shepherd’s reluctance to get into a poaching row have stopped it happening before."

Well at least Shepherd has got his timing right this time and given the new man a chance of getting things sorted before the season actually gets under way.

I can see a damn sight more interesting close season than we've had for years.

So as not to start another thread can someone explain why the media keep saying we would have to pay Bolton compensation if we hired Allardyce? Considering he resigned (which had nothng to do with us)and Bolton accepted his resignation he should be free agent?

Maybe he was phoning Gartside to tell him he'd carry Owen there for 9 Mill  ;D

Regardless of whether or not Allardyce works out, i'll give Freddy some credit this time for at least getting things sorted in good time for next season. Makes a nice change.

Aye can't fault him on this appointment if it goes through.

Yep, doing it right this time, and hopefully he's also learned to stay out of transfer dealings and let the manager pick as many backroom staff as he wants, which am sure SA will have tied up nicely in his new contract. Speaking of the contract, 4 years, lets hope he sees them out and more, its what we need, a stable future.

Joe Harvey was an adopted Geordie i guess and had the Toon in his blood. He recognised the sort of players that the fans liked and although there were some failures, he generally was able to bring in exciting and quality players. Perhaps if Tony Green had not been injured, we may well have had enough quality to win something during Harvey's period.

Sam Allerdyce I would bet will never be another Joe Harvey. He may well win something but it will probably not be in the style that Harvey would have wanted nor with the love for the club that Joe had. If Sam really desired the Toon job, then why didn't he jump at the opportunity when he had a chance a few years ago? Joe Harvey would have walked from Bolton had he been there, to manage the Toon.

By trying to link the 2 men together, its just Freddys usual crude way of trying to link past Geordie folklore and footballing style etc with the present day. Just like Hall's ramblings about an all Geordie team, its Freddy in fantasy land again. When he's in this, he resorts to reminding us of his Geordie heritage and the fact that he understands us. In fact Freddy thinks he is one of us. Its very patronising and shows Freddy to be what he is, not a particularly intelligent nor intellectual man. Ok he's made his fortune but I expect its a lot to do with luck. a very ruthless and selfish character and also being surrounded by good financial advisors.

Freddy should stop his crusade (really just a verbal one) about Geordies and try and run the club properly and successfully without jargon. Unfortunately its not in the nature of the beast to do this and its probably the main reason why we are probably a joke in most fans eyes, apart from our own. Though these days, many of our own recognise this fact too about our beloved club.

Maybe he was just on the loo?  :D

To be honest, Sam stated he was going on a long break, but only to find out he's going to be the new manager for Newcastle 2 weeks later. Phil has every right to be pissed off with the situation.
