You don't sell every player that is difficult to deal with, we would end up with a team full of Ramage's if we did that.

Psychology is part of being a good manager, you have get into the minds of the more challenging players.

Allardyce has got a lot of fucking work to do here. What a mess. :(

It has the potential to be... but it shouldn't take too much to eradicate.

Someone's said it recently; arm-around-shoulder time i reckon!

Is that from the Souness School of Management???

Wullie's right, the club is in a mess and it will be by far the biggest challenge of Sam's career. I just hope he's up to it, if not we are in serious trouble.

Can't believe some of you don't know what AWOL stands for!

Neways, best thing for the club, if his attitue stinks, then ship him out for 10 mil, he's dog s**** anyways.  Should be enough for big Sam to bring in someone who can score goals.

I have not known what it exactly means, but when i read about a player going awol i know what has happened.

But it's not that easy for everyone, especially if your'e not from England...Do you know what FITTA means for example?

Apologies like, I didn't think about the foreigners on the board.  But still, I may not know what FITTA means, but I have a mate called Google who may be able to help me out!

It is all about the so called "TIPPING POINT".  You look at how Fergie backed Keane, he stood by him up until the point  the outbursts/hassle outweighed his value to the overall team. Early on at Man Utd, Fergie dealt with Bryan Robson differently to the way he handled Whiteside & McGrath, all three were pissheads but the England captain went on to play many years for Man Utd because of what he brought to the party, the other two were good players but they were sold as soon as replacements were found. I reckon Sam will find out who the characters are & replace them one by one.

why do this at a time when you are about to have a large holiday, at best it will damage his reputation, and at worst he will have a big fine. After all the quotes about loving playing with Owen, why leave. Maybe Micheal didn't invite him to his BBQ for his real friends?

and watford are shit, I would wan to play the final match, as you could easily get a few goals, and impress the new manager, no sense at all, I think that there is a reason we don't know about.

Could be off to Chelsea according to this Times article.

From The TimesMay 15, 2007

Player unrest awaits arrival of Allardyce at NewcastleGeorge Caulkin

After receiving a nod of approval from Newcastle United directors yesterday, Sam Allardyce will be presented as the club’s new manager this lunchtime and discipline – or rather a lack of it – will figure prominently on his agenda. In its final moments, a trying campaign lurched from mediocrity to mutiny, leaving little doubt that a clear-out beckons.

Allardyce has agreed a four-year contract worth in the region of £3 million per season; as with most of his predecessors, he will be required to earn it. Passion, soap opera and trauma are well-worn byproducts of Tyneside’s footballing heritage and there has been a glut of intrigue in recent days. To the names of Glenn Roeder and Michael Owen can now be added Charles N’Zogbia and Obafemi Martins.

Neither N’Zogbia nor Martins – the striker who took Alan Shearer’s No 9 shirt when he joined Newcastle for £10 million from Inter Milan last summer – appeared in the first-team squad at Vicarage Road on Sunday. Having both been named on the substitutes’ bench by Nigel Pearson, the caretaker manager, Martins is alleged to have feigned injury, while N’Zogbia’s suspect attitude prompted his removal.

Players are free to embark on summer holidays, but Martins began his earlier than expected. The 22-year-old’s refusal to travel to Watford from Newcastle’s hotel in Hertfordshire, when no medical complaint was detected, appalled his colleagues. There was also fury when N’Zogbia spent a tactics meeting reportedly texting on his mobile phone. Both men face fines; both could depart.

With Owen’s future swathed in uncertainty and several other players destined to leave – Craig Moore, Titus Bramble, Olivier Bernard, Pavel Srnicek and Oguchi Onyewu are out of contract, Albert Luque is set to join PSV Eindhoven on loan and doubts also surround the future of Kieron Dyer and Celestine Babayaro – Allardyce is facing a summer of upheaval.

Supporters will not shed many tears at the prospect and there has been some trenchant criticism of Newcastle’s miscreants from authoritative figures. Nicky Butt has taken time to win the trust of fans and does not fulfil the natural role of rebel, but the former Manchester United midfield player, who has enjoyed a fine season, has deep knowledge on the subject of spirit.

“It needs to be put out that not every player playing in Newcastle colours this season has played for the shirt or played for everybody connected with the club,” Butt said.

“The new manager is definitely a good capture for us and hopefully he can come in and sort a few things out. The majority of lads in the dressing-room are good lads and good professionals, but there are a few who don’t want to play for the club.

“The sooner he gets them sorted out the better. If players don’t want to play for the club, they should be got rid of as quickly as possible. I’m not normally one who will come out and slag my teammates off, but there are genuinely one or two lads in there who don’t want to play for the club. We know that and the fans know that.

“I feel there are a lot of players who give 100 per cent the whole time and maybe don’t always do well, but there are others who have ability and don’t want to do well.”

Shearer, the former Newcastle captain, echoed that sentiment. “There are a lot of personalities there that need sorting out,” he said. “A lot of players have gone stale.”

Shay Given, the goalkeeper, added: “A lot of players have got to look at themselves and ask if they could have done better this season,” he said. “I think the answer will be ‘yes’ from a few of them.” Martins, a Nigeria forward with 11 goals in 14 appearances for his country, has scored 17 times in his debut season for Newcastle, but his body language has often been suspect. He has been linked with Chelsea. N’Zogbia has long been a target for Arsenal.

OBAFEMI MARTINS could be on his way out of Newcastle — with Valencia and Juventus already in talks over a £13million move.

The striker’s Toon future was in doubt last night after he went AWOL for Sunday’s game at Watford having told club medics he was injured.

SunSport can reveal officials from both European clubs have met with his agent over a possible summer swoop.

The Nigerian, 22, has privately told pals he has no problems with Newcastle after settling in well since his £10m move from Inter last season. But the lure of Europe’s big guns looks too strong for the 17-goal striker to ignore.

A close friend said: “Oba’s days in England are numbered.

“Juventus and Valencia are in talks with his agent. No club in England is on the radar, so maybe it’s goodbye to the Premiership.”

Never totally convinced about Martins - very in and out, in many ways a typical African player - they show flashes of great brilliance and athleticism, but seem not to be able to get into the physical grind and intensive effort that is the Premiership(witness his suspect first touch and lack of off-ball movement).

Not all are like that(Drogba is more suited to the Prem than Martins), but bearing in mind the number playing in Europe , they should be making more of an impact.

If you look at their performances during the World Cup, only Ivory Coast looked as if they were a 'team' in the true sense. Supposed experts have been claiming that ' this time, an African team has a real chance of winning the WC', or 'it can't be long until an African side wins the WC', but I first heard that around 1974

when Zaire were in the tournament, and over 30 years later, we are still no nearer seeing it...

Incidentally, DON'T anyone start bringing up the 'Racist' tag..!! My favourite player of ALL time is Pele, and he is black - but - he's Brazilian ; that's the difference, they have a different mentality.

Would be happy to swap him for Bent or Aston(esp if Owen stays).
