ohmelads
Looks like we might not be seeing him for a while. BBC on metatarsal recovery times: RECOVERY TIMES Michael Owen (2006): Fifth metatarsal - predicted 6-8 weeks returned 17 weeks later Wayne Rooney (2004): Fifth metatarsal - predicted 8 weeks returned 14 weeks later David Beckham (2002): Second metatarsal - predicted 6 weeks returned 7 weeks later Gary Neville (2002): Fifth metatarsal - predicted 6-8 weeks returned 21 weeks later Ashley Cole (2005): Fifth metatarsal - predicted 6-8 weeks returned 12 weeks later Scott Parker (2004): Second metatarsal - predicted 8 weeks returned 34 weeks later Danny Murphy (2002): Second metatarsal - predicted 6 weeks returned 21 weeks later Steven Gerrard (2004): Fifth metatarsal - predicted 6-8 weeks returned 10 weeks later 6-8 weeks seems to be extremely optimistic if it is indeed a broken metatarsal. Yorkie
A fracture of the fifth metatarsal is more serious than a fracture of the fourth. The fourth is effectively held in a splint by the third and fifth metatarsals. Owen broke the fifth. This is worrying mind http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/health_and_fitness/4283136.stm Michael Owen (2006): Fifth metatarsal - predicted 6-8 weeks returned 17 weeks later Owen ended up having a pin/screw inserted iirc which made his comeback take even longer. Aye. Think it was delayed aswell? Screw loose or something. Actually no, that was the NUFC fans. Badum tish.

Sparks
The biggest problem with metatarsal injuries is players often try to come back from the injury to soon and end up causing more damage.

Mick
Has anyone ever seen Geremi play centre-mid in a 4-4-2? Pretty sure he's only played in centre mid a few times and that was part of a packed 5-man midfield. I haven't seen him play very often in the middle in a 4-4-2, I think he did for Boro when we played them away, I'm not sure if he was supposed to or just drifted inside. Aye. Delayed his comeback by a month or so i think? Can remember him being pencilled in for that FA Cup game at Chelsea?

Aye. Delayed his comeback by a month or so i think? Can remember him being pencilled in for that FA Cup game at Chelsea? Screw went in when he had the initial operation after he clattered into Paul Robinson, then needed to be tightened later on which caused more delays. Owen had stated: 'The specialists have said that everything is healing fine but to speed ( ) the process they need to tighten the screw they inserted at the time of my operation in January. It is a simple process and should ensure that I'm back playing for Newcastle before the end of the season."
Gallowgate Toon
if he carried on playing, then it can't have been his fifth or fourth, might have been the 3rd one though as they take aoound 5 weeks to heal.
Guest eyeball_tickler
how many injuries have we had now in the last 2 friendlies? if he's out for 2 month then i doubt he'll be the new captain.
Razor
OMFG, this is unbelievable, i was really looking forward to seeing him play, thought he would be a key player and possibly captain... but no, he got injured in his 2nd game for NUFC
ohmelads
It'll get to the point where players turn down a move to Newcastle purely for health reasons. If I were a pro and had no allegiances to Newcastle I'd think twice about making the switch!
Guest toon_craig
It's a f****** joke in my opinion. I'm starting to question the backroom staff, coaches etc. No other club has injuries like ours so we must be going wrong somewhere. Allardyce comes in a changes the training etc. Yes, it could be "coincidance" that Barton and Owen get injured but if it isn't the training it must be the people training the players. Afterall, if you have an A* class full of thick idiots... You don't change the things they learn, you look at the teacher.

If it's a broken bone in his foot there's nothing we could have done to prevent that. Although your point stands, we always seem to top the injury table and I'd put money on it that we do again this season. I wouldn't point blame at anybody in particular because there are probably a number of factors including bad luck, but we've had the same club doctor under the past 4 managers and the injuries have kept occurring during this time, so that's one area the club could look at. Injuries have cost us really badly in recent years under every manager, we need to be looking at every facet of the club and trying to prevent them. This isn't a knee jerk reaction, it's been going on for years and Barton's injury has only brought the subject back into discussion. IMO if we sort out the injuries we'll sort out a lot of the club's problems - it's been a huge thorn in our side.

Well I'm not pointing a finger at anybody, maybe that was a bad example. My medical knowledge is terrible and we don't know anything about their expertise, but something's not right at this club. I honestly can't remember the last time we fielded our best 11, or even close, and that's including pre-season friendlies.

I agree about something not being right and it goes back years, did we have this many injuries when Keegan was here because we've had them ever since?
