Alberto2005
Oh jesus wept. We're throwing £6m at a player that specialises in running around snarling, and isn't good enough for our first team. T'rrific. we paid £5m for Barton not 6 You really don't think Barton is good enough for our first team? both moraly and talent wise, hell no! who else wanted him? Everton wasn't it? West Ham I believe, though that doesn't strengthen my case at all to be fair. Morally perhaps, but in terms of talent he's streets ahead of the other CM's at the club. who was at the club shouldn't come into it. As Mortdyce said, we're looking to sign european football quality first teamers No, he said "we want to bring in is someone with a lot of Premiership experience or Champions League" which Barton and Smith both have. As Mortdyce said, we're looking to sign european football quality first teamers Probably should, to be fair. If we had Gerrard or someone that good at the club I wouldn't want Barton, but we don't and I'm struggling to think of many players we could have attracted better than Barton for the price paid. And Barton has never played European football as far as I know, so it's not like he's failed at that level or anything. Ignoring my proposition for a wager I see? Guest newcastle4life
Wouldnt mind the signing if he is playing in midfield might score a few goals and increase the squad size got plenty of players to play up front we really need some defenders to sign now. Dokko
This looks 100% nailed on after the bit on SSN's with Smith in Gosforth and them asking if he was going to be a toon player, he replied 'hopefully, not everything is sorted yet' Well a transfer i didn't want, but he's here so he gets my full support. Willow
Woop Woop! :celb: Squad building up nicely as he can slot in midfield or attack nicely (as we said about Baptista but with more proven prem experience), very happy with this transfer

sturla
Reasonably happy with this. Would like to see Dyers pace replaced, but Smith will give us more options than Dyer. Buying a RB/RW like Steinsson with alot of pace would be a decent move. Glad it turned out to be Smith not Fletcher mind. Bidding for Diop would be excellent aswell. Believe me, Gretar Steinsson does not have pace, just like 99% of all Icelandic internationals.

Guest Texasmag
Hahah, the look on his face when that reported snuck up on him. Don't think he was that impressed. I think he was more amused than anything else. Probably thought to himself, "How the hell did he find me!" Totally caught him off guard. Maybes the reporter read this board, as he must have had a tip off from someone that Smith was in Jesmond.

Ikon
I would rather have Thiago Motta instead of Diop. He's a much better player and is still quite young, good passer of the ball also and available for a small fee..
