I keep hearing this, but frankly the statement is true but hardly the full story. Newcastle got relegated because of the turmoil at the club and the lack of stability, good management and (crucially) team spirit, not due to a lack of ability. All of those things are present this year and they will be a totally different proposition as a result. The likes of Enrique (Their best player btw? How underrated is this guy?), Gutierrez, Barton, Coloccini, Williamson, Guthrie, Steven Taylor, Nolan and Carroll are all decent-to-good premier league quality players, IMO. Even Routledge is a threat because of his pace.

Apparently they have Tiote coming in subject to a work permit and are close to finally agreeing a deal with Ben Arfa too... I could see them pushing on for a top-half finish TBH.

Not sure if I'm comfortable with other fans starting to recognise his ability.

I am. Especially if he definitely wants to stay here.

Hopefully he'll get a call-up for Spain one of these days, would be nice for him.

I'm comfortable with it, but I'm not comfortable with Mike Ashley knowing it.

It's a shame Kinnear couldn't have a heart attack before he signed Shola up for another 3 years. Scratch that actually, it's a shame he couldn't have a heart attack before he took charge.

The fact that Warnock who we nearly replaced him with was in the opposite corner made his performance even more special because Routledge, despite his final ball being a little lacking, absolutely ran him ragged.

In that band below Cole and Evra with Kolarov, Clichy and possibly old man Baines.

Baines? You taking the piss?

Canny player IMO.

I forgot about Baines. Agreed. A very good left back.

Makes you wonder if Joe Kinnear was some kind of secret agent employed to oversee our demise. Thankfully he had a heart attack before he could sell Enrique.

Just had a vision of him dialling a number to complete the transfer and then keeling over before he can answer, whilst a voice cries "hello? hello! HELLO!" on the end of the phone.

It would've been like the scene in Alan Partridge where the BBC guy dies before he signs off on the second series.

Well, he's alright, rate Enrique a lot higher. Possibly biased...

Cole and Evra are more complete LBs because they contribute in attack, but defensively, Jose is on a par with any left back in the world. I know that sounds like an exaggeration but there hasn't been a right winger who's had the better of him since he signed for us, and that includes the likes of Lennon, Valencia and other pacy/strong players who he's come up against.
