I think he is an idiot who really needs a few football men around him, he does run us too much like a business than a football club but he isn't actively trying to make us fail either.

He had Keegan and Terry Mac and still fucked us over.

I agree that successful clubs tend to be those that build around home grown, exceptionally talented players. That said if they want to f*** of what can you do?

Carroll wanted out, if he didn't want to go what exactly could they do?

I don't like Ashley but we look to be on the up so I am not sure ambition is really that much of a weighted argument and selling a young lad who has 6 months of top level experience for an amount that makes him the 8th most expensive player ever seems fairly reasonable to me.

I wanted him to stay and if he was desperate to aswell I would have been very pissed off but as said, he obviously wanted the move as much as the sports jumble sale king.

I am still to be convinced we are a "selling club", we sell like the majority of others who receive offers that are over inflated compared to the players true ability. The only debatable one for me was Given but his actions didn't exactly make it easy to get the best deal even if we were selling to buyatwhatevercost fc.

Against increasingly popular opinion I disagree that "it's funny these players suddenly want to leave" money talks these days, Man U losing Ronaldo and Barcelona fighting to keep (right back whose name wants to play hide and seek in my brain) sums it up.

I might be naive but I don't really believe in the Ashley wants to f*** us over theory as much ad it has seemed the only reasonable explanation at times. He has angered me beyond belief but he is just a ruthless dickhead of a business man. He will love to make big profits on players but our success is also a revenue he would want to take.

He seems to have this unrealistic idea of buying youn/cheap and selling high but that's just one part of the plan. He isn't going to just sell off everything (why bother having more than 2 players per position or signing Ireland on loan/turning Ben Arfa's move permanent?

I think he is an idiot who really needs a few football men around him, he does run us too much like a business than a football club but he isn't actively trying to make us fail either.

The core of the squad is a lot better than it has been for years, relegation inadvertently helped clear some dead wood but I am more confident that we are moving forward than I was for the last few years before he took over.

Basically this is a REALLY long way of saying I don't think we are selling anyone with a semblance of football ability unless it's for offers any reasonable club could not turn down.

Look the thing about MA is that for a while (like now) he makes you think "oh he's finally changed", look at the sacking of ol' Chrissy Hughton, people may say nowadays that "oh he wasn't good and we never liked him" but at the time (and let's be honest) at the moment they secretly are thinking "f*** MA why did Chris have to go".

Same thing will happen here, MA will see things are doing well then go nuts perhaps sacking Pardew or Graham Carr, or indeed allowing Tiote and Enrique to leave and bringing in Carlton Cole.

Basically MA is absolutley insane.

I mean a bit higher up, the club is run by business men who seemingly know fuck all about football or how a football club should be run.

As much stick as Shepherd and the Halls got they knew football and knew Newcastle United. Ashley would do well getting some advisers.

Tottenham were 8th the season before they managed 4th. They held onto the likes of Modric, Palacios, Lennon, Huddlestone, Bale etc All ended up having good seasons & getting interest from elsewhere. We should be following their example. Im doubtful that we'd really get bids from the big clubs yet, liverpool are the main issue for anyone we have.

With tottenham the only big player they sold was Bent that season & he had been replaced by another striker already proven in the prem in Defoe. They then Also brought in Crouch - Same story. The striker they spent the most on was pavlyuchenko & he's now back up to the other two. Which highlights the risks of unproven prem players in that position regardless of their cost & ability elsewhere.

hadn't they sold a few players for huge profits and maybe they paid huge salaries that kept those players and were lucky enough to finish high enough to keep them...we done that for a bit, if you drop down though it becomes a bit of a millstone if the payers have been s*** and you're paying them champs league wages.

Season they sold Berbatov they brought in Modric 16m, Bentley 15m, Pav 14m, Palacios 12m, Keane 12m, Defoe 9m, Gomes 8m,  Corluka 8.5m, Chimbonda+Dos santos = another 10m.

Dunno about wages but they spent far more than they made. Spent more the season they sold bent also.  Season before they sold Berb the same, far more. Redknapps just making much better choices in the transfer market now & its paid off.

They also increased Bale's wage only months after he'd just signed another contract as ive mentioned before. I dont see much excuse for us losing our better players given Carrolls sale now also, depends whos in for them. We seem defeatist about it all already though & that should be far from the reality.

Scousers on their forum seem to think they're looking at José because he'd be a cheap option.

They're talking about £6 million

there's a few places (eg. talksport) reporting the 6 mil fee has been agreed already. even if Ashley was to cash in on it, would thought he'd go for more than this (if true)

Shephard knew football?

He made some BAD footballing decisions and  ran the club into the highest debt its ever known.

Handing out wages to footballers who had already peaked and were on a downward trend, not omce thinking to himself  "if we bought younger players, we would spend less on wages"

He was fucked up man.

Done alright today but just proved that absolutey no way could he cope playing for a top four side. He should realise we're the best he can do.

Think too many got the enrique glasses on of late, he did some horrible stuff out there tonight, dribbling himself into trouble on occasions, didn't track back as he has been earlier either, so might actually be something in the body language thing. But still he should be professional enough to play to his best, its not like he's playing in unfamiliar circumstances..

I thought that he was well below his best today but it's a one-off.
