It isn’t anticompetitive to have FPPT for membership - PIF refused to go through it. The PL’s objections were dropped literally one day after KSA paid the fine and allowed BeIN back into the country.
-
I lived in Jarrow a few years back and often heard the name, but I wasn't sure if he was real or if it was some sort of local in-joke. That documentary was rather eye opening.
-
I actually feel for him must have been an awful time for him. If it was his own doing he’ll have to live with that. None of our business
-
It’s anti competitive and cartel behaviour hence the case being brought by legal experts.
-
One up the bum, no harm done
-
I’m just going to enjoy him while he’s here. I doubt he’ll be here in a couple of years’ time - but when he goes, it won’t be to fucking Arsenal, despite the delusional punditocracy who were desperate for him to head to Laaaaandaaan
-
Everyone knew they were blocking it - was exposure was there to be had? So what if they were? They asked for the ownership to go through the PL’s FPPT like any other potential owner. There isn’t a conspiracy when it was well known what was happening. Members of the PL are allowed to raise their concerns to the PL board.

PSG were only formed in 1971 (or thereabouts) they are only marginally older than the East Stand.
-
They got bought by the Qatari’s for soft power reasons. Qatar had been in bed with France for a while in order to gain soft power. They invested in France, Paris, and other cities, much like the Russians and UAE did in London. The French president at the time was a PSG fan, he convinced them to buy PSG. Rumour is that ideally they didn’t want a French club, there is simply no money in it, it is a farmers league, they even overpay for the TV rights through BeIN. They have been constantly rumoured to be interested in buying Leeds, and rumoured to drop PSG for teams like Liverpool etc in the past. They never saw anything in PSG, they have perhaps hit the jackpot in marketing it well though, and eventually won the Champions League which they really should have done before now considering the investment they have had.

low level football knowledge and RTG-esque bants

I’m not convinced this is the case either - Paris isn’t a footballing city at all, and the potential was never there. The fact that it has one club of note - and that club never had close to the biggest crowds in France - says everything. The potential was never there - without the Qatari investment they’d still be bobbling around upper mid table in Ligue 1.
-
I'd love to share your optimism but I think he goes next season at the latest. We can only imagine keeping him if we win the league imo. Really, desperately hope I'm wrong though.
-
And how do you know he can't? You can't assume the worst of him then write him off on that assumption. Most of us have ambitions of Newcastle being a consistent Top 4/5 side and eventual challengers, Elanga does nothing to help with that
-
British players tend to regard Newcastle as a big club because of our fanbase. Not sure foreign players would be that clued up about Newcastle.
-
You are arguing over semantics. Let me correct my poor wording then. PSG were NOT one of the biggest clubs in the world, but they always had the POTENTIAL to be that as they were based in Paris...which is definitely one of the most famous cities of the world. Hence why they got bought by the Qataris.

He’s been separated for ages

No value in Europe is a mad take. A player can have a sensational season in the European market (Akliouche, Diomande) and be worth £50-60m tops. A player who has a sensational season in this league will be worth twice that if he's bought at that price - literally all of our player bought from abroad are worth double what they were bought for minimum. It is the literal definition of value.
-
Counts for most players. Counts less than money though. Which is the bigger issue.
-
This way you find out if a players interested before wasting time approaching the club. Once a player indicates he wants to leave then normally the deal gets done.
-
No they weren't man. You need to let that one go. Man U are a sleeping giant. Liverpool were a sleeping giant. PSG ascension is only possible with the crazy investment they have received - that's not a sleeping giant. You were wrong on that point man.
-
The London factor counts more for foreign players. It's a cosmopolitan city with far more options for a foreign player. Newcastle is pretty good as well tbf, but they don't necessarily know that as we aren't as well known. Plus Chelsea will pay more so there's not really much we can do about that.
