Well, I might be the only one but I reckon this is going to turn out to be a great bit of business. He's represented his country at every level except senior but he's only 22, he's quick, skillful and obviously has ability. If we can get his confidence up and give him a consistent run in the team I think £3m could look like a huge bargain come the end of the season.

The signing of this fella could have gone someway to rebuilding our faith and optimism in this summer's transfer plans and next season's campaign. Instead, in typical Ashley/LLambias fashion, they've just made things even worse. You couldn't fucking write it could you. I'm not suggesting that we pay every player whatever they want but the board must have some idea of what a player's current earnings are before they enter into negotiations. FFS!

I'd consider it a success to be honest. It would've been nice to see some of the fringe players replaced with better quality, rather than first team players, but we've definitely added more pace and creativity to the side which is something we've needed to do for a long time. Obviously it depends very much on who we bring in but if it was something like Barnetta, Long and M'Bengue then happy days. If, however, it was Bridge, Carlton Cole and Barnetta then i'll be more than a little underwhelmed.

So yes they are likely to finish above us, but it's by no means a return to their glory days Their central midfield is still pretty weak in terms of depth. Meireles and Gerrard is a decent pairing but beyond those two it's slim pickings really - Henderson is nowhere near top 4 standard and it reamins to be seen what Charlie Adam can do in a better team. Downing is their best signing so far because he'll supply a lot of pinpoint balls for Carroll but I still think Dalglish has got a lot to do
