Agree. We can still salvage the shitfest of this seasons transfer window with 1 real upgrade of striker. In an ideal world I would love a keeper and LB but that ain't gonna happen, barring Ashley undergoing biblical proportions of a conversion in the next day or so. If we can also offload Siem and even 1 or 2 others then, whilst being far from ideal, there will be some minor merit in it all. Of course we don't get nice things so it's all moot probably.

Of all our strikers I never expected that he would be one of the possible ones we sold or would consider selling (barring a ridiculous offer). If he is to go then it has to mean an upgrade. To sell him without any plan for an immediate replacement that offers something more would be stupid in the extreme. That would effectively leave us with Mitrovic, Joselu and Perez? Armstrong away till January I assume... We have to have someone in the pipeline to even be considering it.

Hopefully can spur Shelvey on to be the player we know he can be, rather than the arse he is at times.. Sounds like we have a decent player on our hands.
-
Always nice to see a player fulfil their potential...especially if he's ours! Hope he and Lejeune can form a solid partnership and wall...we need it in front of any of our existing keepers.
-
Delighted for him. Hope this starts a turn around now, in everything...praying.

Exactly. Well put Dave. I gave up my season ticket over 5 years ago now, was damn hard at first but I still think it is one of the only ways we can have a massive influence on getting rid, or making it clear to the despicable twat that he is not wanted and we won't tolerate it anymore. I understand those who can't or won't give up (well those who do it out of a sense of loyalty and not mass stupidity or ignorance) but hate to see us all turning on each other...again. Only one winner when that happens. The sense of despair this time is bigger due simply to Rafa. He gave us a fleeting glimpse of hope again, of what we could become. The fact that has been destroyed by the cretinous cunt who owns us must surely be the nail in many more peoples coffins, in respect to keep ploughing money to him I can only hope. When the inevitable happens I hope a torrent of hate, abuse and vilification is aimed at Ashley et al...

Newcastle United vs. West Ham United - 26/08/17 @ 3pm (No TV)

Hard to call this one. Draw would seem most obvious? Two sides struggling for form and both in danger of losing managers that are largely popular with their fan-base. Point would probably be welcomed by both of us. (Have horrible feeling we may lose by the odd goal though...1 -2 for me) -
Bloody well hope so. Has talent undoubtedly but an utter drain on resources when we are so short of them. Wish him well.
-
Happy day. This guy challenges Rob McDonald for being the worst piece of shit I have ever had the misfortune to see trying to play football... and we have had some shit. Utter, utter tripe. Now fucking buy someone decent.
-
Bugger. He is our best left back. Which is obviously the issue but this is bad news in light of lack of cover...again obviously. If not a 3 at the back then we will probably need to play Haidara?
-
If we have to shift some of the shit before we sign then we can forget it. No way the likes of Colback, Rivierre, Hanley (not shit but not good enough for the league we are in) etc are being signed by any other mugs on the money they are on with us surely. Loaning them out may be the only option for some of them, even that may not be possible given their wages? Utter shitfest Still I suppose we will have a ready made squad for next season.
-
and so say all of us.....
-
Don't see how Swansea, Bournemouth etc can be seen to have worse squads than us in all honesty either? Plus they have owners or boards that seem to actually give a shit about trying to stay up.
-
Had this down as a 'gimme' point today. Worrying but obviously extremely early days. Goes without saying but we are crying out for some investment. When/If this doesn't happen and it's confirmed.... then genuine concerns.
-
Joselus stats are pretty average and that's being kind. Can't say iv'e seen much of him but hardly inspiring looking at his history. Surely there is a loan deal out there that is better quality.

Newcastle United vs. Tottenham Hotspur - 13/08/17 @ 1.30pm (Sky Sports)
George Bailey replied to 54's topic in Football
1-3 for me sadly. Tough opener. Don't think they will fare well at home (Spurs) this season. -
Looks like we better pray like mad for him to start finding the back of the net regularly, as it seems we ain't signing anyone to replace him. Time to wrap Gayle up in cotton wool.
-
Yeah saw that on the transfer tracker, thought we had got a fee. So effectively 19 mil spent in a window where that buys you two thirds of a Burnley centre half
-
We haven't actually 'spent' much have we? Sorry Ash hadn't seen the transfer tracker thread I thought we got 5 mil for Anita? I'm assuming the money recouped for Thauvin, Murphy and Anita cover the cost of Lejeune and Atsu/Manquillo? or thereabouts? So outlay is really just the new young winger so far? The two youngsters Varney (?) and the lad from York can't have cost much. Hanley, Mitrovic and some of the other dross should get maybe 10-12 million? We haven't really improved the central spine of the team at all ffs
-
Nail your colours to the mast - where will we finish?
George Bailey replied to Dave's topic in Football
11th and with our business so far I think that is a fair position. Far too positive, alcohol doth not agree with me, as I was expecting at least an effort to strengthen the spine: 15th at best now and genuine fears creeping in. With Rafa obviously. Season of stabilisation and reaffirmation in the top league. Too many sides have a head start on us to look at anything top 10 imo. -
if they didn't spend then 7th to 9th would be a failure? To even stand still requires an outlay, and we don't yet know if they will improve on that 7th. Maybe they will. maybe one of the 'big boys' will have a season to forget (as has happened recently with some of them). At least they are showing some ambition to try and compete. Personally the money being spent nowadays (generally in football) sickens me to the pitt of my stomach.
