He wouldn't have referred it to video if he was that sure. Moot point tbh.

£9.99 Month Yea £10 is a lot if your only getting the channel for the Premiership games but if you like all kind of sports then it aint to bad. 40 games for £40... [/JamesNesbitt]

Drive the c*** back down to his level with a bit of luck, forcing him out to be snapped up by Whitley Bay. Quite pathetic. In what way? A bit harsh perhaps? Well if we pretend that he is good enough, we'll never get shot of him, meaning he'll play games for us, subsequently contributing to our under achievement? And you've just got your point across without calling him a 'cunt'. Wasn't needed.

That I would leave down to the discretion of the ref. That's why he's there.

380 Premier League games a season. How many times would it need to be used to clear up any dubious goals? 10? 20? Hardly likely to cause the disruption some fear is it?

Swings and roundabouts. If it's a goal, it's a goal. Doesn't matter which end it's at.

Surprised they didn't go for Eastwood from Southend. He signed for Wolves for £2m yesterday I think.

Good move imo. Anything that helps to get the decision correct is a good thing. I'd limit it's use to decisions of fact though. It can't be used on decisions of opinion.

Be careful... ?? The choice of phrase wasn't the best was it? what? Just didn't want it to descend into a horrible "send 'em back where they came from" type thing. My apologies. You sent it there! Let's just nip this in the bud. I thought the original comment was a bit dodgy and didn't want the thread to invite the usual ignorant cliches. No more, no less. In hindsight I shouldn't have said anything. My mistake. Now leaving this thread well alone tbh.

...And yet he 's still head and shoulders above any defender we've seen in black and white, bar Woodgate, for the last 10(?) years. Says it all tbh.

If trotter 58 is to believed, it'll be 4-3-3 going forward and 4-5-1 when we're defending. And I for one believe him for the record. It just makes sense to set your team out like that. Strength in numbers when soaking up pressure and numbers in the box when attacking... Can't see Viduka or Owen dropping into midfield and tracking runners back when we're defending. I'm just struggling to see why he's a target and how, if he is a target, he'll fit into this system. Just stinks of bullshit tbh.

Brazil are currently dismantling Chile 3-0 after half an hour. Excellent stuff. Uruguay ave already dispensed with the hosts Venezuela 4-1 in the other QF. The competition is finally getting interesting...

I think you're mistaking the word "sh*te" with "not as good as he was". Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Shearer wasn't as good in 2003 as he was in 1996 but he was still good. And Capello doesn't seem the type of manager to me who'd play someone who he didn't think was good enough. Hypothetically speaking, if Raul signed, who would make way? What would be your first choice 1/3 up top? Not trying to catch anyone out, I'm just curious as to how he'd fit in with Allardyce's formation.

Signing a good player and raising the club's profile. Sceptical on both reasons tbh. He used to be class and I doubt we'd be rocking European football if we signed him. He's been a key player for arguably the best team in the world for over 10 years. It wouldn't be like when we signed Kluivert who was on his way down and out of favour at Barcelona. Raul was still first-choice, and was a very important factor in van Nistelrooy scoring so many goals. How old is Raul now? I'm not having a go, I'd just question his motivation, leaving his beloved Real for a team in the North East of England. Just trying to see things from his perspective. Would it be much difference to when Zola went to Chelsea? Don't think geography is all that important if he felt the club was right. Fair enough but you're comparing Newcastle to London. My whole point is that, although he's not 'old' his best years are definitely behind him. He's on the wane and he's only ever played for Real Madrid, where he's a living legend. He has the lifestyle and the status. Can you really see him giving all that up to come to Newcastle? Personally, I can't.

He's never going to be first choice - if he was, he would have been by now - and McClaren clearly isn't that fussed, so he might aswell concentrate on his club career. You can see why he's done it. I can't actually, which is why I posted what I did! I rate the guy as a solid, dependable defender who can cover CH or RB. At a real push, as a DM. His versatility means he'd be in virtually England squad for the next few seasons, regardless of the manager. Genuinely struggling to see why he'd turn his back on England. May be it's just me?

A 29 year old CH retiring from Internationals seems a bit odd. Wonder why he's doing it?

Struggling to see the motive behind any move like this tbh. I'm hereby dismissing it as NOTW bollocks.

For £6.7m, I think he'd have been a snip tbh. We're thin on the ground for CH's and he'd have been a great addition personally. Meh, still think there are better options. Would rather just go for Campbell for £3m or something. Pricey for a 32-year-old but unquestionably worth it, imo. At the minute, our options at CH are a crocked Taylor, Ramage, Huntington and Rozehnal. Andrade would have been a great signing and would significantly lessen the chances of seeing Ramage this season. This would be a good thing.
