Well said. I'm a critic of Nolans fall from the heights. But let's hope he's accepting his responsibility to get back to producing the goods at last. No shortage of effort from Smith but a HUGE shortage of ability or effectiveness for months. In fact it talies with Nolans drop out of the goalscoring stakes good point, never thought of that but i'd also say that smith's performances, in my opinion weren't that good from late spetember onwards.

one thing i noticed last night was an extra bit of awareness that wasn't there earlier on this season. at one point he dropped into nolans position when our move broke down and nolan was by their keeper.

There's no requirement to let the defence get ready before taking a quick freekick. That's the whole point of it. has our resident ref been in on this yet ? as i understand it, if they are going to take a quick free kick the atacking team still have get an ok from the ref before the defence has organised. some refs will let it go if it is in a non threatening area (ie not a shot).

zidane done 2 out of 3 well enough to let others do the other. neither guthrie nor nolan do either well enough. but i agree to disagree.

a central midfielder on a bad day should attempt attacking and defending.today nolan had lots of misplaced passes and poor control. if my previous post made him sound like zidane then you never saw zidane.

he was ahead of the forwards at least three times, it's probabaly about 5 years since a newcastle central midfielder done that.....and defended.....and created a goal......and got into the position to score one. danny didn't.

i thought most of our good play came when the ball got wide as little was happening through the middle,as much got there from the full backs as from the midfield. not all a central midfielder has to do is sitting in the middle passing, they have to aid the attack and defence....guthrie didn't, nolan did.

its a shame you missed the directing the play to the wrong side and misplaced passes whilst not wanting to leave the centre circle (that wasn't all he done , he done some good stuff but dont try and make out a slightly lower than ok game was anything more)

nolan was avreage, no denying it, i said he was ok, got ahead of the forwards a couple of times (hiow ofetn does our midfield do that) looked to get on the end of stuff and made some good movement off the ball.....on the ball was ok, gave nowt massivly poor away and won a fair bit in the middle. guthrie........prowled around the centre circle looking like he could do something without actually doing it, didn't defend or attack, made nolan look better than ok.

No not at all, I thought he had a very good game infact a great game, he wanted the ball and showed for it alll the time, yes he did missplace a few passes but fkn hell when you pass it as many times as he did thats going to happen, yeah he got caught in possesion a few times but again when your on the ball as much that will happen too. The world best CM still give it away and also get caught on the ball, he played very very well tonight. nolan was the better player tonight (and he was ok). i guess he;s an easier target and less people want him to do well though.

The ones who remained until the end were, place started to empty tonight on the 75th min, crap I tell thee.. Jonas was man of the match for me and just looked class, he responds well to the crowd and that shot he had was a real screamer, had it not took a deflection we might have got a glimpse of his mask tonight. Taylor was class when he went to celebrate his goal and discovered the rest of the squad thought he was offside and left him all on his lonesome lol. Hats off to the Coventry fans for the attempt at the Mexican wave lol. 3 points and a feew more goals to add to the tally Fantastic. Did Coventry bring many up? He's certainly not s***, it's just so frustrating to see him go past the same player twice and then put a s*** cross in. He's a key man for us, but I can't believe he's an Argentine international. totally agree woth your view of him.....however he plays very differently when representing argentina.

nolan attacked more,defended more and created more, guthrie prodded the odd ball from the centre circle now and again..................we despeartly need at least 2 central midfielders.
