I think there's a lot of wishful thinking here. A lot of wanting Krul to still be any cop because when he first broke through he looked like he could go on to be world class, and over the years he did put in plenty of match winning performances. Realistically though he's been on the decline for a few years now, largely due to the injuries he's suffered.

I think a fully fit Gayle could get goals in this league no bother, but he clearly doesn't have a great deal of faith in his body at this moment in time. Whether that's something that he can get over or something more deep-seated like Sturridge we don't know but Rafa's comments a few weeks ago suggested he was getting frustrated with it. If there's an opportunity to cash in for £20m and if (and this is the important bit) we reinvest before deadline day then I wouldn't be that perturbed. At the moment we're probably not going to see a lot of him anyway.

I thought the atmosphere was shite last year at times. The worst I can remember, not in a "everyone whinging all the time" sense but people losing their rag over really minor things. Maybe it was an issue of expectations, but there were some games I was embarrassed by some of our supporters.

That's true, but surely Ryder, Waugh (no relation to the former Australian cricketing brothers I must add) or someone must have some contact within the club who could give them a nudge saying 'By the way, Manquillo should be flying over to Ireland tomorrow'. Or are they really just that poor journalists? They do, but I think it depends on how the powers that be at the club are feeling on any particular day as to whether the Ronny get tipped off. The Wijnaldum and Townsend arrivals were fairly well signposted for example, and I know media were told by the club on each occasion which flight they were arriving on. Others less so.
