Bookies generally don't change odds cos they've got insider knowledge but just based on what's being bet on. People see reports about Bruce, think "Oh, it's gonna be Bruce" or their mate's plumber's wife heard he was looking at houses here and people bet on it. The more people bet on it, the more the price goes down. People see the odds shortening, think it must be a cert, bet on it more (especially if one bookies has had a big bet and slashed the odds, making the other bookies look great value for what BetFred obviously knows is guaranteed), and they all cut odds even more so they don't lose a ton if it happens. Wasn't the Sheffield United manager suddenly massive favourite last week? Get enough people to bet on Ant and Dec and - either through automatic algorithms or someone at the bookies going "Hang on, these lot know something we don't" - you'll end up with them favourites. With no relation to how likely it is to happen. Could of course still be Bruce anyway. Sometimes people bet on stuff because (correct) word gets around.
