The Keegan haters out in force again, I see. *Shakes head*

If rumour is to be believed, it was Freddy who brought in Carr not SBR.

Got to say credit to Carr for today, but it shows that his heart was never in it when he was with us, getting paid back bucks and giving nout back in return.
-
Great news that he's signed on and wants to be here. The worry is that if someone comes offering daft money for him in the summer, we know what Ashley will do.

Cheers Sewelly. I'll have to check with my dad, though I doubt he'll be able to remember either.

Was that a 4-0 win? If so that was mine too. I honestly can't remember the score! The pre-match ritual for me back then, was getting on the Jordan's bus at Cambois, with my dad and his mates and sitting at the back. Getting to town, going in the lounge at The Companions Club for half a coke and then on to the ground, in the old West Stand Paddock (next to the Leazes) which I think later became the family enclosure. Good days.

Shrewsbury at home back in 1981 I think (I was 8)

David Kelly's winner v Portsmouth in May 1992. Probably the biggest 'goal' and celebration that came after in NUFC's history. Was in the scoreboard that day and by christ, what a relief when Ned scored.

I remember the old Supporters Club Shop in the Haymarket. Used to book up for the away travel there.

Sky, man. David Craig is the man in the know!

Aye - it's not taken long has it.

That's precisely spending the money wisely. Tiote and HBA both represent that category: well negotiated buys that was done after proper research. Spending big is often an unwise strategy, which we all know: Smith, Viduka, Butt, Duff, Martins, Owen (c***), Boumsong etc. Bargain basement doesn't necessarily mean that the player is crap. He may come cheap because he's troubled (HBA), that his style of play make him ideal for PL and not the Dutch league (Tiote), because he doesn't fit the system the team is playing or he refuses to sign a new contract.....All those factors and more, can be discovered if the club does proper research. Which we know do through the likes of Carr. That's all very well, but whist unearthing a Tiote is commendable, you are more than likely to end up with average players (at best) like James Perch. Scouring in the bargain basement is what this club did in the mid 70's and mid 80's - can you tell me what happened each time?

Pardew's words in the Geordie Beano don't exactly fill me full of confidence that the Carroll cash is going to be spent wisely, if it all. Reckon it's going to be a summer of bargain basement signings. That's gonna get the punters in to get their s/t's now isn't it?

Disappointing if he goes in the summer, but to me it points to some of the players realizing that there is a lack of ambition from Ashley and if that's the case, then why should they stick around under the current regime? Jose has done his bit for us - stuck around when we got relegated and has been great since we came back up. I wouldn't blame him for leaving if there is no desire to push on. Back to the days of Westwood and McKeag, IMO.
