Program has started. Howay the lads. -
about 45million was spent pre-season. Ashley's main issue is suspect/clinically insane managerial appointments. Aye and without that spending we would have been certainties for the drop, Ashley only spends when he's investment is in danger. I don't see that changing and i really don't see why people think any different. Because the numbers are simple. The club is allowed to spend what it earns. He takes nothing out, and puts nothing in outside the loans when we (often) fuck up. In that sense you can discount Ashley from the equation bar possibly drunkenly accepting or pulling the plug on a deal. No idea if that ever actually happens though, he has been increasingly removed himself from the picture and has admitted his lack of knowledge so his appointments have and are the key to what we do in the market. We have less to spend now as the year in the championship has crippled us to some extent, but a year or two in the premiership should change that, and it is up to the manager and those Ashley has delegated to to decide how and when it gets spent.

Ashley has been fairly straight in the sense that the club pays for itself now, he won't take owt out, nor put anything in. Until we generate as much as the other Prem clubs, we'll be at a disadvantage.
-
And Caballero, both free/loans so not really to do with money I'd have thought. Be interesting who the actual 4 were. Got the impression from the talk in scripts that it wasn't just the money, but also the players/agents were just not as interested as we'd hoped, and we switched tack to younger players enthused about the club/project.

Season-long loan. https://www.nufc.co.uk/news/latest-news/merino-joins-magpies-on-loan

Never going to be convinced by his grin.

If any of you fuckers have jinxed this or put off the buyers (don't listen to them, Rivs is a top top player, check his goals Vs Palace!), I swear to god...

"intense disappointment when proposed deals for Willy Caballero and Tammy Abraham fell through" Fair play, it could still be the case that the doomsayers are right and we are screwed. But as far as evidence goes that Ashley has reneged on giving Rafa money to spend yet still only able to give the examples of Caballero (going on a free) to Chelsea, and missing out on a loan player from Chelsea seems, well... a bit shit tbh Mr Wilson.

Been used so many times already that this has now actually become aids of the internet Think you should apollogise for this. It's cool, I should be the one apollogising for making him feel so unfrappé.

Would he be a Moussaka Sissoko replacement?

Very disappointing.

https://audioboom.com/posts/6144890 Benitez going off on one about how shit and bloated the squad is and how it's all going tits up because nobody even looks like touching any of ours, not even with somebody else's.

Says ewe. "According to reports the Magpies have been locked in negotiations to sign the 21-year-old for weeks, after he became unsettled at the German giants." Nevertheless, a baa-rilliant result if we've got him. Think the club have just pulled the wool over the medias eyes again, which the Chronicle are no doubt feeling fairly sheepish about. Welcome to the fold Marino!

Absolute mess of a player.

Carrol coming home? Can't be worth more than a Mitrovic these days.

Big-Baba-Booms.

Thing is - I think there is value to be had. Had a look at https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/statistik/saisontransfers and there are some decent value transfers that have gone through (admittedly for a few of these, I'm going off reputation rather than having watched them extensively and some would be unobtainable due to the club they moved to being more attractive than us or work permit issues): Driussi - 12.5m Karsdorp - 11.9m Semedo - 11.9m Enes Unal - 11.9m Konoplyanka - 10.6m Dahoud - 10.2m Ounas - 8.5m Bertrand Traore - 8.5m Riedewald - 7.65m Robertson 7.65m Germain - 6.8m Gnabry - 6.8m Lozano - 6.8m Haller - 5.95m Chalobah - 4.85m Gonalons - 4.25m Willems - 4.25m Most of those guys would improve us and they aren't extortionate fees in today's market. And there are a fair few I've missed off the list. Fair play, but their transfer fees are not exactly rock solid. They still have Murphy at £850k - https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jacob-murphy/profil/spieler/199527

Eight years? Christ, that was the last preseason game I went too.
