Defending what? All I've seen is some countering the idea floated that it means we have 'No Interest Whatsoever In Winning Cups'. Call it what you want, it's the same people instantly taking an opposing view to anything negative said about the regime and their puppet. "The thread title is a bit misleading isn't it? The haven't said they have NO interest, just that they don't really have much of an interest, or something. THERE'S A DIFFERENCE. They're just being honest!" Yep Nah. There are things reported from the meeting that are a joke, the SD advertising excuse for instance, good luck finding an opposing view on that. But it is absolute bollocks that cup competitions being lower down on our list of priorities than the league means we have no interest in winning a cup. Is this really deserving of your outrage? Really? A) I'd suggest it's the standard response you'd get from any clubs financial Director. B) We did pretty well in a cup competition last year, taking it increasingly seriously. C) Our captain and manager clearly want to win something in their careers. D) We may use some squad players in earlier rounds, but I'd seriously doubt that when it comes to the crunch, because it's not our 'main priority' we'll just jack it off. I'm not defending what Irving said (or the regime, or the puppet), just think the reaction to it is, again, stupidly over the top.

Tron rates him. Have to say, my experience talking to Brighton fans has been along the same lines as yours. But as said, worth a gamble considering the position the mackems find themselves in.

Any appointment is a gamble at the end of the day, but at least the owner has tried to appoint a manager who is generally considered to be a prospect. Other than pay to hire the best, it's what most football clubs with any regard for their fans and reputation would do. Meh. Cheap appointment of an out of work, overly defensive, whining death mask of an lower league manager. I agree with Brett. He's worth a gamble, but lets not climb up into Ellis Shorts' shorts and camp around his ring piece over it.

Newcastle United vs. Leeds United - 25/09/13 @ 7.45pm (No TV)

The idea that it's not important to win tonight is just mental. It'll be unbelievably shit if Leeds take it. Come on you fuckers. -

So why not just drop out of all cup competitions and play matches against select XI teams behind closed doors? Sure people are overreacting at these comments like. They aren't saying they don't want to win one or they don't want to be in the cup. Just saying simply if they bomb out early it's not going to have an impact on them because they are more concerned for the PL. I'm sure most clubs feel exactly the same. As per we dive overboard. They should choose their words more carefully then, or not say anything at all. Everything should be a priority. The attitude should be 'we should be going out there, every single game, and aiming to win absolutely everything'. I'm not sure it is fair to expect an upgraded accountant to show the bellicose bluster of a Victorian field general.

How the hell they had the gall to say that, I have no idea. Such bollocks.

It's a disgusting attitude. Disgusting lack of ambition. Maybe if we can stumble to a QF Pardew will realise he has a chance to make history and focus on a cup. IMO the very definition of a midtable side should be looking to cup runs. 5-6 points can take you from 9th to 14th in the league, such small margins. I understand the money from 9th-14th is significant but I wouldn't want my job depending on such a thing. I'd take lower midtable finishes and real cup attempts over finishing 8th and rolling over to Brighton again. I just don't think it follows that we wont put effort into the cups. Considering one of the few things Pardew is known for is his failed (unfairly possibly) cup finals, I'm pretty sure he will as well. Despite playing squad players in the earlier rounds, I think we took Europe pretty seriously, no? Looking at the other parts of the report, why isn't Ashley taking that £18m back now as planned? Surely a good time for it seen as we spent fuck all this summer. Oh and good news on the disabled away travel. Oh, and wtf are we doing still deciding the third kit? Will it go to a vote for members?
-
Lot of twanging of knees going on. All that appears to have been said is that the priority is the league. As it has always been, as it always will be, for every club. We will go out tonight looking to beat Leeds and progress.

Nah, seemed all too plausible so stuck a bet on Newcastle to win first half, Hull to win full time at 70 to 1. Pessimism! The only reliable winner.

Ha, fair play that man. -
This has to be a joke surely. Quite.

Kinnear was right, Douglas is shite. We sodding needed someone mind. Love the lad when he's on form, but Taylor is a ticking time bomb in so many ways.
-
Aha, the excuse Ashley needs! I feel a January recruitment drive is in order.
-
Here's hoping. We only managed 2 clear goals what, twice last year?
-
Bet you're kicking yourself for missing the game. Sounded like a cracker.
-
Not confident about this. Reckon we'll get an early goal and they'll hit us for two in the second half. Fuck you Steve Bruce.

Quite. More evidence, if needed, that we don't sell at the drop of a hat, and we try and hold onto the core of our players despite interest. Really great to have him back in the fold (for now at least; quotes still suggest he wants away at the end of the season, though it may just be poorly worded). -
I've said it already, but lads like Brett, who've taken a bit of a battering, are dying to throw things back in people's faces. Now is not the right time to even be attempting that. It's very early days. Giz a break man, i'm enjoying my moment, might only last a week It's not your moment, man. You look f***ing stupid, and will look even worse if it all goes to s*** again. Just enjoy it, and hope it lasts. Keep doubting lad, keep doubting, more people pretend to themselves this is a one off, the more i will revel in our future success. Not even sure Saturday's win would have felt as good without all you guys Doubt what, man? I'm one of the few who thought there was a remote possibility of him turning it round. You're spoiling it for the rest of us. My sense of identity is all over the place now, I'm siding with Dave and SanToon. Christ.
