You have no idea how delighted I am that Redknapp is in the Championship.

4? We selling Cabaye like? Apparently.

Hope he's better than Shola.

People were expecting we'd take out a loan? Good luck with that.

Well i thought it might a bit, a few discussion about how pathetic we are bidding so little, when we haven't bid at all This thread is good fun though The news is we haven't bid because the bid we were prepared to make, of £2m, would be rejected, is it not? We must know what Villa would have done with our bid and what that bid was likely to be if we're saying our valuation and their's is 'miles apart'? £2m would be our max bid, we may well have bid lower than that if did get to that stage . I know what you mean though and it doesn't look good however. What's making me chuckle though, some were saying "sign Bent --- aargh he's shit, crap, one dimensional lalala, sums us up". A couple of weeks later, were a joke, sums us up, what a joke bid, lalala. It's just funny watching the mood change with every accurate and mainly inaccurate story. Posts like this are missing the point by a million miles. The point is that, like Bent or not, he appeared to be a target so why waste weeks and weeks on something that we're not even serious about. I'd have liked to have had the few reinforcements we need in weeks ago but we don't seem to have any urgency whatsoever. Whether that's part of Mission Wind Up Pards, I dunno. Like most people here that were throwing their arm up in frustration at the idea of having Cisse and Bent in the team together, I think the club were thinking along similar lines. He was not intended to play alongside Cisse, but was the more important target if Cisse was going. We weren't pissing around, we were keeping Bent in Limbo until things became clearer. Now Cisse is staying, we'll chance our arm with a low offer but no more. Other than the fact Kinnear is involved, and I'm fucked if I can imagine him negotiating for anything beyond a mini milk, we might've played it pretty well.

Are they the exact same people like? I wasn't particularly arsed about signing Bent and didn't know where he would fit into our side, but if we were going to try and buy him then so be it. However our valuation is a fucking insult, the manager is being pissed on yet again and we've wasted a month talking about it. I don't see why it's impossible to hold both opinions at the same time. No idea Dave, it's not really about the same people or anything like that. And i've never seen a problem in anyone holding two opinions or changing their minds for that matter. I was more getting at the whole mood changing from report to report, it's funny most of the time, there some fantastically humourous lads/lassies on here, it can be sometimes unpleasant (very rarely), but it shows just how much passion we have, and just how much damage Ashley is doing too. Not to be too dramatic but some of the arguments that go on wouldn't happen if the club communicated with us so much more. Are other clubs more communicative about their transfer dealings?

Erm... We haven't bid though.

Bah. Won the thing last season didn't we?

As Toon's Taylor has said, it doesn't seem beyond the realms that Bent was our plan if Cisse went. We still like him, and might put in a nominal bid, but he is not a priority any more. If we were only going to spend £2mil on him, he was never even going to replace Cisse. Or if Cisse went was he then worth more? Yeah, I think if Cisse looked like going we'd up Bents trousers faster than a ferret up a drainpipe. Now, after dangling him on a string for weeks, we met his representatives almost as a matter of courtesy rather than any real attempt to push through a deal. But fuck it, if they accept, bonus!

Like. You both need help if that's the case. You thinking sabotage? I am now.

Reminds me of when John Paul Gaultier joined Eurotrash.

I don't think morale is clearly on a knife edge. With the Jan signings now bedding in I'm happy to believe that the spirit is pretty damn good, I think the JFK saga etc barely even registers with the players themselves. Also, not one player has been agitating for a move as far as I can see which surely you'd expect if they didn't have faith in the manager, especially going into a world cup year. If we fail to sign anyone, then I agree, things could certainly unravel quickly. But however you view the powers that be, most of us would be pretty shocked if we didn't manage to get in a striker this window.

Same. Think we need to accept we'll get footballing abuse from Man City. Anything less is a bonus. I want us to have a go, not be ultra defensive and still get beat 4-0, which i fear will be outcome. If we do have a go, not be ultra defensive and still get beat 4-0, I could see that scuppering our chances of seeing an overtly attacking team put out again for quite some time.

was this a reaction to the bent deal collapsing? i'm fucking delighted man An astonishing reaction. /Midds. Not so much yours.

And bankrupt the club? Yeah great idea that Dave. I really shouldn't even bother here like but clearly finding an extra couple of million for Gomis isn't the issue, the issue is what we think he's worth. And if they want more than we think he's worth? What will we do then? I know, we'll either buy nobody or somebody we rate less. And people like you think this is a great idea because then you've got "value" - meanwhile plenty of other clubs have paid the going rate for the players they actually wanted. Something Ashley and our club seem to forget is, when you want another clubs player you may have to pay more than you think he's worth, seeing the seller doesn't want to sell generally and have there own valuation. By Ashley's standards we've offered a bloody fortune for Gomis considering he's available for free in 12 months time. Especially in the context of the ridiculous bid for Bent. We are a bit of an oddity, we bid high for Remy last season, De Jong too, we seem to ok with high bids when it suits, but the middling to lower bids we piss about for the sake of a million or two. I don't think there's much odd about it. We do actually bid the 'going rate' (whatever that means) when we have competition or we agree with the valuation. I'd be happy to wager the French reports that we we bid more than whatever Borussia Dortmund ended up paying for Aubameyang were spot on.

Commissioned and paid for by the club, and fair play to them for that. Sadly still feel a twinge of disappointment whenever I go past it, and far prefer the strength of the Milburn statue. But I suspect very few would have captured him in a way I think he deserves, and hope that over time it the weathering will add to its gravitas.

Newcastle united football club.

Somewhere between a Mike Hooper and a fairly on form Wojciech Szczęsny.

Been interesting on Twitter today. "Was with them in Portugal for 4 days & it was really encouraging. The Kinnear stuff is alarming." "Pardew & others need to find a way of 'controlling' JFK because he deals with Ashley." "He (Pardew) would walk if Kinnear interfered on training ground/dressing room - don't have any doubt about that." "I have very little doubt that, as things stand, if and when Alan goes, JK takes over."

To be honest if we had passed last month, the Chronicle would almost certainly have been crowing about it. Barring any concrete evidence I'd not be surprised if 'bloke at work' was actually bang on.
