Pretty sure the reason this has dragged on so long is in large part down to the PFA. This is what Taylor said in the Chron this morning: “I can only say we are working with both Newcastle United and Papiss Cisse and his adviser to see if we can achieve a satisfactory settlement of this difficult situation which meets with the approval of both parties. “In looking to do this we are consulting and meeting with experienced people within football used to dealing with equality issues who are also members of the Muslim faith.”

Concise and on point. Eh? Not putting a transfer request doesn't necessarily negate anyone's opinion that he may want to go. That is largely the point behind the suspicion of his motives - that he may well be using this to argue constructive dismissal, thereby getting out of his contract and getting a move without foregoing the bonuses he would miss out on if he did hand in a transfer request. Packing his bag for Portugal suggests he wants to stay. No suggestion of him wanting to move for months suggests he wants to stay. His reaction following his goal against Fulham suggests he wants to stay. Cisse's general behaviour, comments and press releases over the past few months suggest he wants to stay. All of these things that are real and have happened negate the opinion that he wants to leave. The argument you have put forward is speculative in the extreme. It is not really based on any evidence. There have been no remarks from the player about wanting to leave and if he was to be involved in such a cynical ploy then it would contradict everything we have learnt about Cisse during his time here. All I have said is that the fact that he hasn't put in a transfer request indicates nothing. If anything it backs up some peoples suspicion. We are all in the dark over this. Someone, preferably Cisse himself needs to come out and clarify his position because as things stand he is starting to get attacked for other aspects in his life and it is helping nobody, not him, the club, or those of us wanting to support him and the club; it just creates more fodder for the press vultures.

Ditto, after watching him a fair bit last season, I'm surprised so many people think he would have done well as a first teamer (though admittedly I understand the annoyance with Jonas). Seemed very hit and miss to me, and would be surprised if he hits the heights we hoped he might. Fingers crossed getting more games at that level will see him finally kick on though.

that or the charity idea. Let Wonga have their 'glory' by claiming they were the ones who chose the charity etc.. No, he either puts up with wearing our shirt or he goes. Any compromise just sounds ridiculous and would continue to cause a circus every year until he left.

Body language suggests Southampton.

Fair play.

They'd be taking a hell of a risk. It barely looks like him. Nor does it matter a jot. Even though I'm personally suspicious of his stance, he can still be a 'bad muslim' and draw a line at Wonga.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. It won't end there either i bet. People are flattering themselves massively by thinking Ashley does anything because of how we might feel about it. Don't see why he bothers with spaffing money on statues or involving the club in charity and community causes if that was the case, but, you know, whatever Trevor.

How is this line still being trotted out?

Well. How disappointing.

It's not an either/or. It could be both.

Not much of an upgrade on Cisse if I'm being honest.

Nervous as fuck about this one. -
Guy reports on our pre-season. Guy reports there are many positives, which is nice. Disco falls deeper into morose bitterness. Not bitter at all, just think it's a bit forced albeit there isn't much else too write about if he's out there - can't recall reading this about other clubs. His name is George btw To be perfectly fair, we've not often had a cracking journo like Mr Caulkin (we've never met ) who chooses to give a slightly more in depth tale of our pre-season jaunt, than possibly Alan Oliver ever managed in the past. He already trawled through the more miserable aspects of our club in his last piece as well for balances sake. I wouldn't know about other clubs, though I'd be flabbergasted if there aren't similar pieces out there on Man U, Chelsea and the like. Fair enough but the point I was failing to make is that this shouldn't be a good news story it should be the norm. He's just reporting what's going on at the camp. It's not a 'good news story' as such, but it is good news. Pretty sure we have similar stories from lesser sparks at the Chronicle every year to be fair.

Nope, whey, not enough for a wistful Dave Douglas bump.
