I suspect that the PL never did approve or refuse. But dependant on chain of events I’d imagine a lawyer could argue some sort of ‘constructive refusal’ situation where from our perspective it is refused. Of course Masters is going to be personally blamed when certain events in relation to this have been attributed to things he has personally said and done.

I don't understand how he could get money from it though - isn't it like suing someone with no money and they just have to pay you 15p a week? As I implied in my post above, the PL is a body purported to raise and distribute funds for its members based on whatever money it has left once expenses are paid. What would happen if we won in court is that the PL would legally have to send £X to us once received from sponsors, tv companies etc. The Premier League clubs would then each receive less money and Ashley would get the whole lot

You always feel there is a catch when Ashley authorises large expenditure on players, think this time the catch is the extra leverage of how much more the club have had to spend on transfers

The only thing that surprises me in all of this is that it’s taken this long. I think Ashley has two nuclear scenarios in play here: 1. He asks for £350m compensation. This would basically mean that if he won all of the other PL clubs would each have to forego £17.5m taken from future TV income. Would 10 other clubs balk at potentially losing this sum of money? Almost certainly. They would make sure the case got dropped. 2. He manages to get the courts to agree to a more far reaching court case which looks into corruption, hypocrisy in terms of the owner structure at a number of other clubs etc. If the courts agree to these terms of reference the PL would again have to settle with Ashley to keep things quiet and that means allowing the takeover.

Nah Bruce likes Almiron’s work ethic. Bruce frequently benched Ritchie and Joelinton but stuck with Almiron so no reason to believe that this will be any different.

We're not gonna spend £35m on one player, and he's hardly likely to change his mind about coming here just because we might sign Ryan Fraser. I think it’s very unlikely too as I think Bruce has found better use for £35m. But I still have this down as maybe 15% chance if no other clubs come in, Lille drop the price by £5m and the player decides to take the stepping stone option.

Wonder whether we will go back for Soumare towards the end of this window of big club interest isn’t forthcoming? Although on the other hand we’ve spent roughly the same budget on our four incoming players so money could well be gone.

Going to throw this out there: Ashley has backed every single manager bar KK during their first full summer transfer window. In fact his failings seem to occur in the windows thereafter. Discuss
