The bloke with the column in The Sunday Sun came up with a ridiculous article yesterday saying that the £35m Carroll money shouldn't be invested in new players, but in making tickets £15 adults, £5 kids as a reward for fans Fuck sake, I'll happily pay my money and id by happy to pay a bit extra if that £35m was going to be invested in good players.

Some of you lot must must have took your lass on the Jeremy Kyle show by now to take a lie detector.

What the hell is wrong with some people on this board? He is gone because he said Carroll got a much better contract at Liverpool? Hes stating a very obvious fact. He's not hinting anything there, the facts are there for all to see. We wouldnt get 1/3 of the price we got for Enrique, and he wouldn't get anywhere near Carroll's wages, meaning we wouldnt be half as tempted to sell, and he wouldnt be half as tempted to leave for a big contract. I'm sure he'd happily take £40,000 a week.

Its fucking annoying me that Chelsea and Liverpool didnt let one striker go until they knew they had another coming in, yet Newcastle failed again. I don't blame us for not spunking millions on a striker worth only half the price, but surely we should have been looking to bring in a striker anyway without Carroll leaving. Sturridge would have been a great loan signing.

Can't believe people are so critical of him at his age and write him off. The fact is he's nowhere near ready yet and shouldnt be near the team. A year or two out on loan could be the making of him. He might turn out to be a good Premiership striker. He has potential but he's got to improve his attitude.

West Ham agree fee in region of £15m with Liverpool for Andy Carroll

Absolute crap comparison from Fat Fred there with regards to him turning down Liverpools offer for Shearer. I take it he's on about when they offered 3m for him in the summer of 2003 I think it was. Apart from £3m being a world away from £35m (even at Shearers age), he was our captain and was in the goalscoring form of his life still so of course £3m isnt anywhere near as tempting as £35m for a 22 year old with half a seasons Premiership experience. He's just loosely using a fact that he turned down an offer for Shearer as if he turned down huge money for him at his peak. -

Why didn't he ask for that in October then? You can't justify almost trebling his wages on the back of a dozen games. He wouldnt have asked for such an increase though if it wasnt for what Liverpool were offering. He's obviously gonna think to himself 'if Liverpool value me at that much, then Newcastle should value me higher' as well. Its unfortunate, but I think most footballers (and most people tbf) would expect a contract improvement if someone comes in offering such money for him. I don't think many businesses could justify blocking someone from moving elsewhere where they are gonna treble their wages, and not at least double their salary to a level which competed with that offer. -

Is £80,000 per week not the going rate for a player who will probably get you 20 goals a season and with that much ability though? -

He will end up being loved by them but he might struggle at first. I don't expect him to return to the outstanding form he shown for us this season when he first returns from injury and if he is rusty for a few weeks they might start to wonder what they've bought, but I've no doubt he'll be top class for them. -

I do think though that in the summer we are probably going to have to make some sort of exception with a couple of signings if we want real quality. Not daft wages like Owen was on, but I don't think we can put a £40,000 wage cap on Carrolls replacement. How many players can we realistically get in though? The squad as it is now in terms of numbers (with everyone fit) needs another left back and right winger. Thats not taking into account the players ability and situation in the summer. We know that Campbell will be away, and theres a decent chance that Routeledge and possibly R.Taylor and Lovenkrands will be away. I think he will probably keep the likes of Perch, Guthrie and Best as they are cheap squad players who seems to have a bit of faith in at least. I think they'd love to get Smith of the wage bill but I think we're stuck with him. Thats just looking at it from a realistic point of view from Pardews thinking. Personally I think we could do with 2 new strikers just to go into the lineup. This should be priority before anything else. I'd also like to see two new wide players brought in with more quality than Routeledge and Jonas to give us other options with Barton and Ben Arfa. We'll also need another centre half and some backup for Enrique. If Ireland fits in well here he would be a great signing but if he gets back to his best and Villa agreed to sell he wont come cheap unless there was an agreed fee in with the loan. I don't know how much all of that would cost but unless our scouts have something special up their sleeves then a big chunk of the Carroll money will be needed for a couple of strikers. -
Because it probably wasnt planned in this window? I don't think the plan was to actively look to sell him, I just think Ashleys head was turned by the transfer fee being offered, but he knew he couldn't accept like that or he would be lynched, but he now has an excuse/reason (call it what you want), with Carroll expecting improved terms, so thats allowed him to go ahead with it. I understand the argument where poeple are suggesting that it would be daft to give him a massive contract with our new wage structure and the effect it might have with negotiating with other players, but at the same time I think this should have been one exception. This is Englands new number 9 for the next 10 years. He was probably gonna score 20 goals a season for us for the next 20 years. Surely the rest of the squad could have accepted that we had a player here who is a one off and he is on another level to most of them.

I don't think we'll spend anywhere near that, but that money should definitely be all available. Surely Ashley was gonna hand over some sort of transfer money to Pardew in the summer, even if it was only £10m, so why not give the manager all of the transfer money and Ashley doesnt have to put any extra towards it. -

Its all about how the money is spend now though (if it is all used on transfers, which I highly doubt). If we go out and buy 4 or 5 good players with it then it might turn out to be a good deal. Imagine the money getting wasted the way Souness used all that money in 2005? Does anyone have confidence in Pardew to spend the money properly? Hughton I would have been after the success in his signings as manager. Its pissed me off though because regardless of who he plays for, he is easily my favourite striker around. Just like when Shearer was at Blackburn, I fucking loved his game, and the same goes for Carroll, and we actually had him at such an age as well. He's a monster of a player. -

Howay man, he's talking to the official club site. He's hardly gonna tell them he's gutted to leave Newcastle and he's only there because of money or whatever. He probably is happy, he's got a huge wage increase, has signed for a massive club and it is a big opportunity. It is all clear that he was willing to stay now though if he got his new contract. If he was desperate to leave he wouldnt have asked for it he would have just said he wanted to leave. Pardew has confirmed he wanted a new contract. -

Reading between the lines of todays comments and reports I'm actually starting to understand why he's left a bit. You can say this and that about hometown club etc, but the fact is Liverpool are bidding for him and probably every top club in England want him and he knows he is gonna double/treble his wages if he moves. He has stated he wanted to stay but wanted a new contract and Pardew has confirmed this. He has every right to ask for a new contract (even with him signing a new one not long ago), if he's on course to dwarf his current salary elsewhere. His stock has increased massively and will continue to do so. If he was on £30,000 a week and he's potentially getting offered £80,000 a week elsewhere and with his ability then we should be bending over backwards to keep get him to sign a new contract again. £80,000 a week is a lot of money but he is a one off, potential world class, and he was the potential new Shearer for us. Why shouldn't he get a contract which shows him the club values him as much as Liverpool do? Its clear that, although the club probably didnt want to sell him, as soon as Ashley seen the pound signs he would have been tempted to sell him, and once he had an excuse to that was it. £80,000 fucking grand a week, for once we would have been paying someone top money who was actually worth it. 22 years old. We will regret. -

Theres no way we're gonna get any value for money now. We've lost our only good striker and we've got a few hours to go with tens of millions in the bank. We'd end up spending an absolute fortune on an average striker. The best thing we can do is look at the likes of Strurridge on loan. I'd actually take Crouch but only on loan, which is never gonna happen. Unless we've had something up our sleeves for ages and we've found a striker version of Tiote for peanuts (which we wouldn't have) then the best we can do if we want to look after our money is loan someone.
-
Carroll leaving won't have any impact on Enrique or Tiote leaving. What will have an impact on them leaving is if a team comes in with stupid money and offer them a better wage then we reject it and they request a transfer.

It just makes you wonder, where do they get this stuff from that he's on his way to Liverpool, then an hour later its said the bid has been rejected. Either we are planning on selling him for huge money at the end of the day, or SSN are fucking clueless (and theres a huge chance of that). If he's still a Newcastle player by tomorrow then we have to offer him a big wage increase after turning down such money. He's worth it though. -
Woodgate would only be on loan anyway, he's worth a punt on loan I think until the end of the season.
-
Well we have to be realistic in how many replacements we can bring in before we get rid. The players we should be letting go of wont pay for quality replacements really. I'd say we definitely have to get rid of Perch, Smith and Xisco if possible. Them three definitely have no future here. I'd count Campbell as good as gone. Then you've got the likes of Routeledge, Guthrie, R.Taylor, Best and Lovenkrands who all might have the odd good game at this level but none of them are anywhere near good enough. In fact, they are all Championship players. Apart from Guthrie and Routeledge who we might get £1.5m for, the rest of them we'd be lucky to get a fee for or certainly over £1m. In our situation with the owner we have we're never gonna be able to get rid of all the shit and replace it with better players. I'd say next season whichever keeper, Simpson, Taylor/Williamson, Coloccini, Enrique, Barton, Tiote, Ben Arfa and Carroll would certainly form the basis of a more than good enough team for its 2nd year in the Premiership looking to push on a bit. Its outside the starting 11 which is our main problem of course, but we could really do with plugging the gaps in our first 11 as well. A quality midfielder either to go on the right and push Barton inside or a centre midfielder, and of course a striker would make a huge difference. Personally what I'd like to see is Samba brought in with Perch and R.Taylor shipped out and S.Taylor used as a right back. Kadar first team squad. It wont happen but I don't trust ST at centre back and I certainly dont trust Perch and RT. In midfield I think Larsson coming in for Routeldge, with Smith being moved on, Gosling and Ben Arfa back and the addition of another quality midfielder would do us. We have a problem up front as only one of them has any real quality. No way would I see Ranger but he really needs to go out on loan. We can't even contemplate that though without having enough strikers ourselves. Shola is here for life. We really need two new strikers though. So overall, if we can ship a few out, get someone like Larsson in for cheap and how our injured players back to fitness, then I'd look to invest any money available on a bit more quality in midfield and up front. Samba would be nice, but we won't move ST to right back and we wont pay the money for him.

Surely nobody believes that. If we got a bid of £2.5m or over for Routeledge we'd accept.
