If both deals come off in addition to the already signed Viduka, Barton, and Rozenhal then this will be on one of the best transfer windows in recent memory. Plus there's the possibility of Geremi. Can't wait for the new season. We could be right in the mix if we can keep hold of Owen and Martins (or am I getting carried away?). Plus a left back blueyes.gif

If we can keep him then great. I'd rather keep him than sell him. I think he has a chance of being a top quality striker. If we do lose him though i think we will replace him. Got plenty of time, lets just hope the Martins situation is resolved sooner rather than later. If he keeps us waiting for longer than a couple of weeks though then we should sell him ASAP cos it would be a nightmare getting to August then getting an offer which activates his clause and we would have to make a panic signing at the last minute.

One thing that does have to be said though is although Martins and Owen both score goals, they don't really do much else in terms of team build up and linking up. Its good to have a striker who can go 70 minutes without touching the ball, then scoring with his first chance, but would it be good to have potentially two players who you might not even realize are on the pitch for a lot of the game? I rate both of them like. Don't think its good for the team to have them on the pitch at the same time though.

Martins scored 11 league goals. Acceptable for a first season. If Ameobi had played last season it would have been his 7th season. 11 league goals therefore not good enough.

From the way Owen's played since he's been back from injury I wouldn't get my hope's up about him this season. *lost for words*

The main thing here of course is we have to sell him if Arsenal bid for him, and with two of the mornings papers reporting this so far it looks like there could be something in it. Looks like we might have seen the last of him.

In an ideal world we will keep both him and Owen. If we do lost both though we could replace them with two more reliable strikers. Both Owen and Martins are unreliable for various reasons.

Who the hell do you expect us to sign? He covers a few positions, is cheap, experienced, and is a good quality player. Nobby is more than capable at right back, but Geremi is better there because he is better defensively. I don't understand what some people want. This is exactly the type of signing we should have been making last summer.

Big money will not always get you a top defender. A good manager can identify a quality defender though even if he isn't a big name.

Hope we get him. I wanted him here last summer. I would be absolutely chuffed if we end June having signed Rozenhal, Geremi, Barton and Viduka for a total of £8.8m

How many of Cech, Carvalho, Robben & Drogba had played any Premiership games at all when Chelsea signed them in 2004? Number 3 was not the main point though and is just a minor one. The first two questions i asked are the important ones because at the end of the day we don't even have a decent starting line up to put together yet. Signing big players might fill the gaps in your line up, but you're gonna be seeing Matty Pattison on the bench cos you won't have money left over to build the rest of the squad.

Have a look at these lists and tell me who you'd sooner have.... Barton, Viduka, Rozehnal, Beye. or.... For the people wanting big money signings over cheaper players i say why don't you go on nufc.com and look at the tansfer section under Souness and have a little think. If the £50m bit is true i would be happy for him to spend £30-£35m on bulking up the squad with good quality players, then maybe bringing in one big signing and it would have to be a creative playmaker for me.
