Liverpool vs. Newcastle United: 1/1/24 @ 20:00 (Sky Sports)
toontownman replied to HaydnNUFC's topic in Football
I'm ready for Howe to ring in the changes. Not sure what those are given our limitations! Definitely scared of ab absolute mauling here and almost expect it. We are out of fumes. -
I think Howe will be backed hard this window. It's huge for the team and Howe. I know all the worry is about Ashworth and Howe sliding out the door but let's go all in. We will likely see renewed press shit stiring about the Saudis buying another club in Serie A and questioning whether the Saudis are all in on Newcastle. Nothing like a turning Newcastle fanbase to test that patience.
-
We are a self fulfilling prophecy with this kind of shit though. We all fear the Mackem loss and our fanbase will be bricking it. Hopefully the players can shake it off but one silly mistake in silly mistake month is all it takes. The mackems literally couldn't play us at a better time in the past 2 years.

If only we had someone as clinical as chris wood
-
Sit down honest discussion in the dressing room obviously didn't go well then lol
-
Been a while since we have been this bad. What happened at half time lol
-
Press hounds and other fans drooling at the prospect of cranking that Howe out pressure up.
-
What a goal. Clinical
-
Been an absolute disaster of a past month. We have to be better, we DESPERATELY need two outfield signings to buoy the squad. but to compile everything we are also shit out of luck. - PSG VAR debacle - constant injuries - lack of VaR being a difference maker at Chelsea. - Facing Luton turbo charged after last week's incident. - mackems with a new manager Can't rely on the excused but fuck we have been unlucky too. Ultimately we still don't offer enough up top and aren't consistently clinical enough (not a new problem) to be a top 6 team. Fine margins but we could be sat 2nd right now had we been better finishing or had that luck.
-
Isn't that everyone? It's Howes style to acclimatize.
-
Nah. He has at least until seasons end even if we lose the majority of games left.
-
Hall on. We must be desperate.
-
Its simply a continued perfect storm when combined with the shittorm of injuries. - We gambled on Howe getting the most out of much of the dross we had and saving that FFP for future windows. - Howe wanted to keep harmony when we could have upgraded players like Ritchie and Dummett to give actual options of the bench. - Given the injuries and high press tactically players physically can't cope with the amount of games they are playing. We are dead on our feet and confidence draining away at a high pace than we can press.
-
A long shot on target. What is that kind of witchcraft. Luton taking the piss.
-
Upside. Dubravka was playing well. Lots of room for Bruno in the middle. Downsides.. everything else
-
Townsend lol

It was in the press that he has to give a 12 month working notice if he wants to leave. -

I think that's what we did in the summer. We went with the opportunity of youth with Livramento and Hall, then jumped on Tonali and Barnes because the opportunity was there. While you couldn't predict what's happened we have definitely been gambling a bit on Howe keeping players over acheiving and worst case scenario like it's approaching now is short term pain for long term FFP gain. Still we have shown we won't panic and will hold course for the long term. I just think we are at a risky point where nearly half the squad have been out with the other half fatigued. We aren't gambling with top four now, we are gambling with top 8 and odds are the injury situation isn't going to turn around with the amount of gametime players have played and the intensity we play with. We need at least a couple more.
-
Completely agree. Just don't think they will bring one in until the summer with Murphy coming back and Barnes, who shouldn't really play there but has. Then they can shift either Murphy or Miggy along with Ritchie in the summer to make room. I think it would be foolish to shift Miggy in general but certainly this January. Murphy is only just coming back from injury so it's unlikely he will be sold. No one will buy Ritchie. I can't see us signing anyone and having another player sat outside the squad not playing. We are too careful with FFP. I would be shocked if we spend big this window other than one player and a loan or two. Would be a good time for a shot in the arm backing with spending though, not least given current harder/frustrating times. We have clearly gambled a bit on avoiding short term pain for long term FFP gain, so I think there is likely money there if the right deals are out there. We have loans to use too. Still think it's an either or when it comes to Striker or RW this window. Not sure which we need more. We have an easy-ish switch out for a DM and GK, then it gets more tricky. We could drop Dummett and Ritchie then bring in a ST and RW. I expect Manquillo will leave this window, maybe Krafth (think he will wait til summer, he looks fine as backup) People that can be bumped from the squad for the second half of the season: Tonali - gone Pope - gone? or not The likely lads Dummett Ritchie Manquillo Other options Targett Krafth Gillespie or Karius - Keep Pope drop Gillespie?

Took too long to post this and get the Chelsea sour taste out of my mouth. Yet again, some of his touches and play were incredible. I thought it was Bruno a couple of time. Simply no way someone his age should have some of the ability he has. It's incredible. We need to keep protecting him when we can.
-
No GK? If we could bring in 4 that would be amazing. I don't see it but fingers crossed. I think RW waits until the summer. A versatile forward in January is possible though that could play through the middle and cover out wide if needed.

Would be a timely appointment. -
Just to stoke the previous Jonathan David talk.. https://x.com/GlassCityFC/status/1737230190860972104?s=20 I think he is perfect Wilson replacement. Howe would do wonders for him imo.
