The real market valuation of the player, their progress, their performance on the pitch, their value change after incidents, value change close to end of contract etc are purely industry knowledge. I admit I am trying to speculate but imo 1. It should be Howe who wants Guehi so bad that he is willing to save the budget and wait till next window 2. Mitchell knows the consequence of doing so, but he choose to ignore it and follow Howe’s wish, because it’s Howe who would be accountable for the results, and then he could bring in his own people
