I don’t like the lineup. We would have trouble dealing with Spurs pressing, with most of our best passers on bench
-
Luckily this is our home game. I think Howe and the players know how important this game is. 2-1 close game
-
No, TCD you got it wrong. 1. yes, the PSR issue looks like purely an accounting stuff, that you can calculate the capacity / black hole by accounting / amortization / P&L etc, BUT 2. The real market valuation of the player, their progress, their performance on the pitch, their value change after incidents, value change close to end of contract etc are purely industry knowledge. Just like Chelsea. They are now trying to sell those fringe players at a price even higher than their acquisition fees. We all know it won’t happen, because we have the knowledge and experience as a fans following for decades. Boehly is not a football fans for long. He probably is using his knowledge from other US sports In other threads I did say Bruno’s value is dropping already and we might already missed the boat. There are a few people here fiercely voicing out their disagreement. So even football fans could have great variation re a players value, why not those managements that probably just joined the industry for 3-5 years? And upon that you also need to draft long term plans re players in and out in accordance to their progress, their value and impact on PSR caps. No way you don’t need specific industry knowledge for this.

A bit far but if Ugarte is Ashworths target for long, then a cash + player swap for Bruno might have been one of the card Mitchell might not know how serious the PSR issue is before taking up the job. And to be fair this is also his first time to handle it - half way cleaning up the shits left. Just like what timeED said, from PSR perspective, it isn’t a bad thing to keep the fund this summer. The “Guehi or nothing” approach might be a compromise made together by Mitchell and Howe, if we took it in a positive way. Things might not be that bad, but for sure we have a very challenging season ahead and, we have no choice but to back Howe and hope he saves us again.

There was a possibility that Ashworth gambled we could advance to the latter stage of ECL that the extra price money could help to cover part of the cost, plus the Joelinton sale (yeah I know). And that could also probably explain why he was so desperate to accept Man Utd offer after we crashed out from ECL - he knew what would happen afterwards. the PSR requirement is something very football industry specialised. It requires a lot of football knowledge, connection and communication, and also long term planning to survive from it, nevermind making good use of it. I am really not surprised that Eales / Amanda / all of them (except Ashworth) got caught by the PSR requirement, hence the disaster, because it is not something common in other kinds of business. You cannot just hire a CEO or director from a fast food chain or department store and expect them to fully understand what the hell PSR is and the real implication on squad building. Ashworth knew it though. He must knew it, that’s why he is so desperate for the Man Utd job. If he stayed, what happened last 6 months would hurt his reputation as a competent DOF. Now he is enjoying the praise for a very successful window there. Got it?
-
January is the time when Ashworth stopped working I.E. the club started to change the decision making process. May be you completely misunderstood my post? I mean Jan 24, not 25
-
How can that not a penalty? That must be a handball by Wood
-
You got it the opposite. For long term good we should give up Joelinton etc and keep Minteh I.E. those value will keep on increasing. What we did is targeting short term league finish which is opposite to what club under PSR should have done
-
Nah, you are far from “measured”. Probably the farthest in this forum.
-
If we want to take a positive POV, and if Howe is really performing magic again, that we are on track to top 6 finish at January, we will try again for Guehi which we would be in the pole position. Guehi will be ours for the second half of the season Sometimes gamble does pay off, even if it’s a bad one
-
I admit I am trying to speculate but imo 1. It should be Howe who wants Guehi so bad that he is willing to save the budget and wait till next window 2. Mitchell knows the consequence of doing so, but he choose to ignore it and follow Howe’s wish, because it’s Howe who would be accountable for the results, and then he could bring in his own people
-
Sometimes I do wonder whether you owe an apology to those that voiced our concerns re club management since January.
-
I don’t think I need to reply in this thread anymore, especially after this summer transfer window
-
Wow, the article, if you trust, confirmed that it’s Mitchell’s idea to go all-in Guehi, and no alternatives Just wow. speechless. Jesus. And I am correct, the club management has been in shambles since Ashworth stopped working.
-
Buy world class prospects from overseas, and develop local prospects yourself. That’s the best way to grow your club under PSR Buy inflated, fully developed, max priced player whose value will only go downwards, is the worst way This isn’t hard to grasp anyway
-
Normally the DOF should be held accountable for the transfers, but for this window, very likely it would not be on Mitchell. The whole fiasco is just so poorly handled that I can’t believe it’s directed by an experienced DOF Not that I want to call out Howe but if we failed to reach Top 6 this season, it must be Howe who is going to bye
-
in other words, same as last season, once Pope is injured we are done wheres the lesson learnt?
-
Asking for trouble - exactly.
-
Not only we need to win, we also need to pray for no injuries, especially Burn
-
and 10 months later, another lower than expected finish would 100% resulted in sacking of Howe. Do people really realize this?
-
You only need to know the impact to the team in 36 hours
